It is hard to "answer" as the button sticks and when dialing a number it often double dials a number

The buttons got "sticky stuff" on the conductor pads. There is not much you can do unless you open the handset which I do not recommend unless you really know what you are doing.
If you do, or, are foolish or brave, open the handset, remove the rubber button pad and wipe the circuit board with rubbing alcohol. DO NOT USE ANY OTHER SOLVENTS.
