Question about Saws

Open Question

Looking for trigger switch for Sears reciprocating saw.

I have a Sears reciprocating saw, model# 900.271260. I believe from the manual that it goes back to around 1995. The switch is stuck in the 'on' position, (somewhat thankfully). Most parts are available still, but, of course, the on-off switch is not. The part number is 147325-00. I was told by a tech at sears that it is a Milwaukee Sawsall and could possibly be cross-checked with an existing model. Love the tool. Its a true war horse, but very precarious to operate by having to plug it in and pull the plug to get it to work, Sears only answer was "I guess its time to buy a new one. Would you like to see our new models?" Yeah, give me a break. Any help might you have to offer?

SOURCE: reciprocating saw problem

OK just looked at the website and there are 2 parts that I think it could possibly be. One is the SHOE part # 399725-00 list 4.86 in stock and or guard 157325-00 list 4.59 also in stock. I would suggest that you go to this site and confirm which one you need, but the shoe is the piece that does ride against the work surface. Good Luck and let me know if I can help further

SOURCE: reciprocating saw only works at certain angles

It sounds like the cord has a broken wire in it or there is a loose wire at the switch. Unplug tool and if you are comfortable in removing the handle halves look at the switch wiring and I pull gently on the wires from the cord to see if a can pull one out. Let me know if you still need assistance and I will go into more detail.

Bad Switch on Sears Reciprocating Saw Model No: 900.271261 Part No: 147325-00

sears do not make items but use other manufacturers to make items with sears name on them
it is very possible that the switch is generic and will fit other makes of saws
you may have to go to an appliance repairs shop with your switch as a sample and see if that is the case and if possible they may be able to point you in the right direction as to where a switch can be purchased
Try e-bay , type in switch for reciprocating saw ( leave the brand off) and you may find the switch there under a different name

Dewalt Model D304-04 reciprocating saw wont run. I plug it in, pull the trigger and it wont start. What am I doing wrong or what could the cause be?

Hi Fred:
- Confirm there is power in the plug.
- use continuity meter to check that there is a complete circuit through the saw.
- broken connection in plug?
- broken wire between plug and switch?
- switch not functioning?
- switch set between forward and reverse?
- Speed control potentiometer contacts dirty?
- Bad brushes?

What keeps a makita reciprocating saw from starting?

It could be several things:

1) Brushes - easiest to check, most Makita models are accessible from the outside through round caps on either side of the tool. Check to see if the brush springs still have good recoil and the brushes themselves aren't chipped or burnt.
2) Switch - you will need a multitester to check the switch. Using the continuity setting, check to see if you have continuity through the switch when the trigger is depressed.
3) Armature - if the armature has failed you most likely would have also found the brushes badly burnt or chipped. You should be able to get an idea by looking down the brush tube with a flashlight and looking at the condition of the armature - it may appear slightly black, but should not look burnt or have unusual spaces between the commutator segments.
Let me know if you need further help.

Saw seems dead, after 8 - 12 trigger pulls the saws turns on (sometimes) but after you release trigger its dead again???

You should check the brushes and cord first but it sounds like your trigger is shot, not an uncommon failure for this tool. With the cord plugged in, hold the trigger on in one hand and bend the cord around in several placed, especially near the boot and push and pull it in the tool. If it comes on, replace the cord. If the it doesn't react to this, check the brushes. Without knowing which model you have, they should be at least 1/4" long, evenly worn and shiney, not burnt, where they touch the armature. If these check out you need a new switch.
