SOURCE: Dishwasher stuck on "drain"

not easy to fix - it has a leak. the tray at the base is full of water which ooperates a float which switches drain pump on. remove front panel at bottom front and mop out water or tilt backwards 45deg and water will run out. leak is usually main pump

SOURCE: Dishwasher

If this is a blinking "clean light", this is a common problem with some of the Kenmore and Whirlpool models. I believe the problem is attributed to water supply temperatures being too low when filling. Apparently, there are some sensitivity issues with the temperature sensing circuits in some dishwashers. There is a reset sequence that you can try to clear the fault. Push the NORMAL WASH then HEATED DRY buttons in that sequence two to three times. The unit will enter diagnostics mode, but can be stopped by pressing the CANCEL button. This will clear any existing faults and should return the dishwasher to normal operation.

To keep the fault from returning, it is recommended that you run your hot water faucet in the kitchen until it runs hot. This will heat the water in the supply line for the dishwasher (most dishwashers are fed from the kitchen sink supply line). The theory is that if you fill the dishwasher with hot water from the start of the wash cycle instead of the cool water that is normally in the lines (especially if you have a hot water tank located far away from the kitchen), this should satisfy the requirements of the temperature sensing circuits. If the fault reappears, there should be a tech sheet located inside the lower panel under the door that explains what the fault is. The flashing light will be a series of flashes, followed by a pause. If you indeed have a component problem, it will depend on what the flashing light sequence is in determining WHAT component is bad. Let me know if this helps you. SOURCE: GE Nautilus dishwasher wont run

Thank you! Our dishwasher hasn't been working for so long. I've tried spinning the fan to get it unstuck a long time ago but I thought that wasn't the problem. The fan was stuck real tight and i couldn't turn it more than a quarter turn each time. This time it worked!

-Turned off power to dishwasher on circuit breaker
-Removed kick panel
-Used two screw drivers, one to turn the fan till I couldn't any more and the other one to hold the blades in place so that it wouldnt "unwind". Then I would turn the fan some more. It turned less and less each but after repeating about 5 times the fan got un-stuck.
-Turned the power back on to the dishwasher and turned the dishwasher back on and IT WORKS!

THANK YOU!!

SOURCE: GE Nautilus dishwasher wont run

This is a typical GE problem which I have seen many times...When a DW sets for a while not being used...the motor often freezes up....Take the front (lower panel off....find the motor assembly...(with the DW unplugged!!...very important)reach in with you hand or a screw driver...preferably your hand...at the back of the motor...there should be a impeller blade...you should be able to reach in with a finger and pull it down..it may be resistant so find a way to hold it in place as you reach up to the next impller blade and pull down further...finally it will all of a sudden free up....after which you plug it back in and start it up...I am also including a step by step (no drain problem check list as you may run into an issue like this if it has not been operated for a while ....notice article # 5).

1. Air gap / Drain hoses
If there is an air gap (located in the sink, near the faucet), check to see if it is clogged. Unscrew the top cap and see if there is anything blocking inside. Note: If there is no air gap installed, the dishwasher might not drain properly.

If the drain hose is clogged, the dishwasher would not drain. If there is an air gap installed, it is very common that a hose going from the air gap into the garbage disposer is clogged. Remove and clean the hose. Make sure to reattach the hose before starting the dishwasher.

Note: If you recently had a garbage disposer installed, it is common to overlook removing the drain plug.

2. Broken belt
Some dishwasher models use a belt to drive the pump. Replace the belt if found broken.

Note: Sometimes the belt would just come off the pump. Even though it might not be broken, it is recommended that you replace the belt, because it is probably too stretched out.

3. Pump
Some models have two impellers inside the pump - one, wash impeller, takes care of the wash cycles, the other, drain impeller, drains the water out. If the drain impeller is broken (broken blades, shaft), the dishwasher would not drain. Replace any broken pump components.

4. Drain solenoid
Some models (for example most GE dishwashers) use a drain solenoid to drain water out. Sometimes the solenoid gets stuck, preventing the water from draining out. Try to free up the solenoid. If unsuccessful, you might have to replace the pump assembly.

5. Motor
If the motor is stuck, it is sometimes possible to free it up by manually spinning the motor.

Replace the motor if defective.

6. Timer
Replace if defective (note: uncommon problem).

I hope this helps...it is always useful to include the Model #...more specific instructions can then be provided

Good Luck and good day.....please rate my effort...the Fang

Danby Dishwasher stuck in drain cycle after wrong soap use

There might be water in the overflow sensor. I unloaded the dishwasher and lifted the front so the dishwasher rested on its back. There's a narrow gray tube that runs down from the bottom right of the door. The tube runs into a white piece of plastic with some wires coming out of it. There is a rubber plug that covers a nipple on the plastic. Pull the rubber plug off. Mine was quite tight. Tip the dishwasher back onto its casters to drain the water from the overflow. Check to see if the dishwasher functions normally, then put the rubber plug back on.

Dishwasher stalls

If the cycle doesn't complete, check these:

Water-heating cycle
Timer
Water-heating cycle Many dishwashers heat the wash and/or rinse water to a higher temperature, as the cycle calls for it. In these cycles, the dishwasher pauses after it has filled with water, waiting for the water to reach the pre-set temperature. What happens next, depends, as follows:

  • On some units, the pause is timed and the unit continues after the allotted time.

  • On others, the cycle can't continue until the water reaches the higher temperature. If you have this type of dishwasher and the water isn't being heated (say, because of a problem with the heating element or thermostat), after the unit stops at the heating cycle, it never continues. When you repair the heating-system problem, the "cycle problem" is fixed too.

Timer Timers don't often fail. But if every other part of the dishwasher seems to be working properly and the timer knob seems to be stuck in one place--doing one function continuously--the timer may be at fault. Dishwasher timers can't be repaired. If yours is defective, replace it.
