I have a harddrive which has my old windows vista computer backed up,but i cannot see the files even when i have chnaged permissions, what do i do?.

the files desktop.ini are system files, most are hidden files and we dont usually see them. if you have plugged in your old hard drive into a diff laptop to read it ,then you should try unhiding files . tools.organize/folder and search options/tab up top "view" ..then tick show hidden files. if you made a backup of your files while it was in a working laptop the chances are it will hide them ( because there important ) the desktop.ini file dose not open

Tip

Show Hidden Files and Folders_1

1. Normal Configuration (setting)
Most of us know how to set the Show Hidden Files from the Windows Explorer but if in case this tweak doesn't work we need to do something more important in the Registry or using Command Prompt. For beginners i also include how to set the Show Hidden Files in the Windows Explorer.
Step 1. Open Windows Explorer (eg. My Computer) and click on the Tools Menu as shown in below.

Step 2. Click on the Folder Options, you’ll see a toolbox (as shown below) :

it seems viruses on your hard drive and the extension of viruses is .scr (it hides all files). Try this tips to un hide your files, you must show the hiden files on you pc by following these steps
1.open my computer
2. click on tools
3. click on folder option
4. on the advance setting find the category of hidden files and folder
5.
show choose hidden files and folder
6. click ok

the second step click run (you can find by left click start button )
type cmd
you will be in a command prompt and it will be C:\\
then type the path of your hard drive (for example F:)
after the path show your drive
(for example F:) type attrib -s -h -r -a /s /d
wait until the process finish
now you can see the original file of you with extension file folder not .exe or .scr
you can delete the file with extension .exe and .scr by one left click to the file and press shift and delete button on your keyboard.
don't forget to scan your drive with anti virus

I have a WD 1TB My Book Essential for Mac. It was working wonderfully until last night, my husband opened the drive on our iMac and was able to access the files on the drive; however, when he attempted to...

Hi there,

Did he try to recycle the files using the iMac? because sometimes if you recycle the files it will show that it was deleted from the harddrive but in reality they will remain there but the are hidden. I think the best way to check if the drive is full is to plug this drive to a computer that has a Windows operating system and make sure to show hidden files and delete all hidden folders that you will see in the drive to free the space completely.

Hope you find this helpful!

Was using my 1TB and then all memory (pictures) dissapeared. Still shows memory used/available, just all the files are gone.

Those files are hidden folders.
For that connect it to computer then open my computer go to tools menu->folder option.
then click view tab enable "show hidden files and folders" and disable check box of "hide system files" then apply then you can see your files as hidden folder.
then open it then copy all files to local drive also scan computer and harddrive with updated antivirus because it (harddrive) is infected of virus.
Let me know if you need further assistance.
Thanks for using FixYa.

When i boot hte computer the ntldr is misssing???

you might have accidentaly deleted th ntldr boot application. one way to solve this without formating your harddrive is; take out your harddrive and put it in to the computer as a slave drive with same operating system and copy the ntldr file. this file actually located at the C:\ drive and is actually hidden. just tick all show hidden file under folder options then VIEW TAB inorder to view and copy this file to your harddrive. once done, take our your harddrive and set again the jumper settings to Master then put it in to your computer. power on the computer and it should be working after this procedure. Else fails, you need to use the recovery disk that came with the system and restore the computer back to its factory setings.

thanks and have a good day!

I have a WD 320 GB harddrive, when I go to open it there are no files, however the amount of used space on indicates the files are still there. How do I recover those files

First thing you should do it make sure that there is no hidden files inside the drive. Go to folder options - View tab and then check show hidden files folders. If you see files then you can do a back-up of those files. But if nothing shows, your drive have a bad sections on it and will cause some errors. You should use scan disk utility for it to recovery possible bad sections that may contains those datas.

Hope this could help you..:-) Thanks..
