For best results your ground wire should be the shortest possible. Find an area that you can put a screw or bolt. Be sure that the area is scraped and clean from oil or paoint and securely fasten so that you have a good ground.

My 1991 f250 battery keeps dying while running

The alternator is not working. When running, a voltmeter on the battery should be at least 13.5 volts, showing the alternator is working and the battery is being recharged. You have a charging system malfunction. check the connections between the battery and alternator. Check battery ground, engine grounds, and engine to body strap ground.

Second wire in engine compartment fuse box melted? where does wire go?

secondary ground wire fried!!? this tells me that your main ground did lose its contact somewhere.usually opposite the battery side. when this happens, and you try to say, start the car, all that amperage will follow any available ground it can find, usually through the actual wiring harness that covers the entire car. see, most vehicles have 2 ground cable setups..a main, and a secondary.. the main consists of the large cables as well as "ground straps" which look flat and are made of braided wire and run from the car body to the block and areas like that. now if these fail or loose connection, the only other source for grounding will be the loop i the harness which is not big enough to handle the amperage needed to run the starter motor when activated by the ignition key. now since yours burnt up, it must be replaced and all ground wires checked..also check for shorts in the system elsewhere, with a meter if necesary, you can also disconnect the battery entirely and connect a 6 amp battery charger directly to the cables(like charging the car without the battery) and if there is a short, the guage on the charger will peg over without fear of fire you will hear a buzzing sound where the short is (usually)..I have used this trick to find shorted blower heater motors or wiper motors on big trucks..if this ground wire is wrapped into the actual harness setup, you will need to replace it by cutting loose the old one, run a new wire into any part of the system thats not damaged, usually near the headlight fixtures, then run it back to the original starting point ,then its process of elimination as to what will work and what wont, remember, all circuits will function some with the charger attached instead of the battery, you will hear a buzzing or humming especially when checking the radio..good luck

Have 1995 Mercury Sable Ls. The car will not start. When turning the key I get nothing no clicking noise lights dim. We tried to jump the car off with jumper cables and it still does not start. Checked...

Check all wires running to battery. Check the battery ground(black) cable for sure. Make sure it is getting a good ground. If necessary unbolt the ground and clean up with a wire brush or wheel.

Headlights and dash lights flicker / pulsate one minute and then the next it is fine. 30 seconds or so later it does it again.

Check for a loose ground wire(s). If you cant find a loose ground wire check the ground post on the battery. sometimes the ground post will break off inside the battery(especialy w/ the cheap junk they have for batteries now)Sometimes you can solve a ground or negative issue by running a secondary ground from the battery to say the firewall or frame. Make sure you clean off any paint and undercoating down to the bare metal at the point you are attaching the new ground to.once the ground is established put some light paint on the spot to keep out rust.

How many ground wires go from the battery .

You have two main wires. The large one that goes directly to the block and a smaller one that goes to the body (fender near the battery). That grounding continues, adding a large connection from the rear of the cylinder head to the firewall, several small harness grounds on the sides of the block and sometimes also near the computer. When there is a ground problem, it is often a good idea to clean all the ground points and even to run a separate ten gauge wire from the battery, attaching it at several points to the block, firewall, fenders and also to the main dash frame inside the cabin (running through the firewall). You cannot "overground" an electrical system, so doing that, even if it does not help a particular problem, will often avoid others.

I have 94 camry will not run no check engine light no ground for check engine light from computer no ground to mass air flow we have replaced the brain, distrib, coil, ignitor, all relays no bad or blown...

Check all ground connections. Battery to motor ground battery to body ground and motor to body grond strap. Take off all fastening bolts to check underneath as they can look fine but be corroded underneath. Ground problems can cause all kinds of electrical malfunctions.

Check engine light on did check and said injector cercuit open cylinder #2 car is running rough how do you fix it?

Code P0202??
Most of these problems occur because of electrical: wiring or ground problems. Before throwing money out and chasing the problem:
Check the wiring harness for Cylinder #2 Fuel Injector. Especially check the Ground wire connection on the intake manifold.
Is the Battery fully charged? The sensors and control unit runs off the battery. If the battery is not fully charged the engine will run rough.

Check these first and get back with me if it does not work.
