Question about Cub Cadet Op's Manual Model Lt1042 Lt1045 Lt1046 Lt1050

1 Answer

Tractor is dead.

My battery died. I went to Home Depot and they recommended the battery for 20HP and above. I installed it and it worked.
Then I let the tractor run for 4 minutes and it just died. No lights, nothing. What do I do?

SOURCE: I have a series model 1018 cub cadet with electric

If you have access to an electric voltmeter, with it running check voltage at the battery. The engine should charge the battery and maintain system voltage so that the electic PTO will function. The electic PTO will not pull in if system voltage is too low.

2001 Dodge intrepid. Battery light came on while driving. Got home turned car off, tried it and it was completely dead. put new battery and fuse in . still just clicking. what else could this be?

Pretty sure your alternator died.
Battery voltage with the car not running should be close to 12.5 volts on a fully charged battery. New batteries need to be charged before they are installed to keep a good alternator from melting down and dying.
With engine running the battery should read about 14.5 volts indicating your alternator is charging. At lower rpms battery voltage will still be above 12.5 volts with the engine running.
If you get it cranked and the battery does not read above 12.5 volts, you have a bad alternator.

Did you check voltage on the battery, and did you leave it running at a high idle? (low idle can consume battery voltage instead of charging it.
On many tractors the lights do not run unless the motor is running so don't let that throw you off.
Things to check
Make sure no fuses popped.
Makes sure you have gas
Try jumping it to see if it starts If not, it sounds like you may have a short, or may have a safety switch that is acting up. look for loose, broken, damaged wires.
Check to see if any wires are hot when the battery is fully charged. Try that and repost what you do or don't find.

My lawn tractor died and now is readind dead but the battery is new

Sounds like your charging system is burnt out or your battery cables wheren't tight enough when you reinstalled your new battery and as soon as you started it the first time and you ran the battery down it didn't charge, take the cables back off and clean them greese them up and put them back on and tight them up and charge the battery up and you should be good to go

The electric clutch needs full power in the battery to stay engaged. I would recommend you check your charging system before replacing the battery. Put a digital volt meter across the + and - terminals of the battery and while running at about 1/2 throttle you should be over 13 volts DC. Probably around 13.5 or so. If not you have a charging problem. Lawn mower batteries I have seen seem to last only 2-3 years. I would also recommend a trickle charger for extended periods of non use. Don't forget the Stabil also.

Hope this helps.
