It was beeping every 15 seconds or so. I pulled unit off ceiling and checked batteries. Reinstalled. No more beeping. Do I need to replace batteries?

The beeping means that the detector was sensing low voltage from the battery. If the battery is over a year old, most manufacturers recommend yearly replacement on smoke detector batteries.

Goes off only at night with NO warning cleaned & changed batt. 4 times so far !!!!

These types of smoke detectors are PHOTOELECTRIC, the way it works, there is a IR transmitter and a IR receiver placed in a dark chamber aligned at a 45degree angle, when smoke enters the chamber IR light bounces of the smoke and than generating an alarm, so in conclusion if there is a lot of DUST in the chamber it reflects the IR light just like smoke, than can generate an alarm, try blowing air in the smoke detector (gentely) if it does not work replace the smoke detector...

Well, I replaced the batteries because the smoke detector was beeping, and it's still beeping even after the batteries were replaced.

In addition to changing the batteries, make sure they are turned the correct way to get proper polarity. Also, clean the unit using canned compressed air with the straw nozzle (like you clean your computer with). The sensor may be clogged with dust and dirt. Keep the canned compressed air as upright as possible when blowing out the detector.

My smoke detector periodically goes off when I am cooking although no smoke is detected.

You most likely have an ionization type detector which detects ionized particles of combustion. This type of detector does not look for smoke density but for ionized (excited) molecules in the air. Water vapor from cooking can and will set off an alarm. Burning a piece of toast in the toaster with little or no smoke will also cause a false alarm. Try moving the smoke detector further away from where you cook. This will most likely solve your problem. Hope this helps.

How do i program a keychain and the smoke dector

to program any new sensors first you must access the installer menu by opening the front cover and using the red buttons typing in the installers code,(4321) is the default code. once that is done press the add button, then the sensor/remote button, then trip sensor(keyfob by pressing both the lock and unlock buttons together until the system beeps) or (removing the smoke detector from the base until it beeps). Once the sensor has been learned it will say keychain remote, press the sensor/remote button repeatedly until it says the correct location, then press done. then enter group code 01 for the keyfob and 26 for the smoke detector. then done.
