I have 6 smoke detectors & two CO2 detectors hardwired in. The smoke detector in the kitchen went off and now all the detectors will not stop alarming. How do I reset?

First of all, you really should not have a smoke detector in the kitchen as it will be far too prone to false alarms, especially since most household smoke alarms are ionization type, which respond to the presence of gases caused by combustion. A proper system as recommended by NFPA will have one detector in each bedroom, one in each bedroom hallway, and recommended one per floor thereafter, with placement being near exit points to help guide you to the exit during an actual fire (by sound, since it's difficult to see through smoke). I would be inclined to remove that device or try to find a heat detector replacement, such as Kidde Model # HD135F. For now I would vacuum out the device or try a can of compressed air to blow it out, but I would not leave that device long term.

Where do I go to get a replacement if my smoke alarm has aged out.

If your concerned because it's a hard wired smoke detector (has 120v) any New replacement will work and they sell them at Lowe's, Home Depot, etc... there is typically 3 wires for a powered smoke detector, black and white (hot and neutral) red or yellow (to interlock with other smokes) Please make sure Power is OFF and this is a simple fix... I hope this helps ?

Blips from Smoke Detector

When was the last time the battery was replaced in the smoke detector ?
Try replacing smoke detector battery with a new alkaline battery.
and see if bleep goes away.
Also if it is cold , the near flat battery will reach the level that the smoke detector will beep at intervals to warn you that the battery is almost flat .

Smoke detector looks burned

Air may flow through the unit if you don't have a vapour barrier wrapped around the electrical box in a ceiling with an attic above. The smoke detector may look smoky and it may have come from cooking grease in the air. This may foul the smoke detector. All smoke detectors have a piece of radioactive americium-241 that creates ions in an ionic chamber. This chamber has to be pristine. That is why smoke detectors have a replacement date on them. It may be time to get another one. Some kits come with a cardboard baffle to stop so much air sucking through the unit.

Goes off only at night with NO warning cleaned & changed batt. 4 times so far !!!!

These types of smoke detectors are PHOTOELECTRIC, the way it works, there is a IR transmitter and a IR receiver placed in a dark chamber aligned at a 45degree angle, when smoke enters the chamber IR light bounces of the smoke and than generating an alarm, so in conclusion if there is a lot of DUST in the chamber it reflects the IR light just like smoke, than can generate an alarm, try blowing air in the smoke detector (gentely) if it does not work replace the smoke detector...

First try vacuuming out any dust that may be in the unit. If that doesn't work, replace the smoke detector.

Most detectors have an expected life of 10 years but I've seen some fail sooner. There are two types: one uses a beam of light that gets interrupted by particulates. The other uses ionization to interact with and detect the smoke. Ionization ones work with a small amount of radioactive material.

The photoelectric ones are good for identifying smoldering, smoky fires. The ionization type of best for fast flaring fires. For really good protection, get a smoke detector with both methods. (It will be more expensive though.)

I hope this helps.
