What happen when you push the on/off button? Fan spins? LED's Blink? Anything? Battery Charge LED on? Have you tried another cord/charger with the EXACT same power specs? or boot without battery installed? Has there Been ANY damage? Overheating? Have you removed the HDD and tested, have it tested?

If your laptop appears to boot up and the hard disk LED flashes, then the problem is probably a back light fault. This can be a faulty inverter or a faulty CCFL lamp. Please click on this link and follow my instructions to identify the fault and possible fix :-

Satellite screen is blank & won't shut down

Don't know why the screen is blank. Toggle the F9 key to make sure you didn't accidentally toogle off the screen.

As far as turning off the power and shutting down the computer, the old stand-by is to take out the battery and then pull the plug. The computer will power down. Replace the battery, replace the plug and then push the start button. You may have to start it up in SAFE mode since the shut down process was not the "normal' process the computer expects to follow.
