SOURCE: High x-max vs. high sensitivity

Sensitivity is a representation of efficiency. The higher the efficiency, the better the sound quality.
Xmax is a measure of the "throw of the cone peak to peak. This is a direct representation of the volume of air the subwoofer will displace..
A High X.Max subwoofer will displace more air - and therefore produce more SPL in a vented enclosure.
Sensitivity on these subs aren't crucial, because the customer is looking for LOUD and will purchase a large class D Mono amplifier to power it - characteristically low in sensitivity as well due to the way the power is inverted. Highly efficient, yet low sensitiviy.
I am definately a basshead! My show car has (4) 15" Cerwin Vega Stroker PROs. (one of the most highly EFFICIENT high xmax subs available) (86dB). (36-44mm Xmax (adjustable for SQ or SPL)
ea141e4.jpg If you are looking for SPL, High XMax, Low sensitivity, and lots of power is the way to go. Generally, to increas SPL by 3dB, yuo must either increase surface area of driver 2x or double the input power. Slot ports, aeroports, and loaded horn ports can also increase your dB level by up to 3dB as well.
Properly constructed enclosures have an effect as well. Instead of wasting some of your power on vibrating the enclosure, it should be braced properly to reduce the wasted energy.
All of these tips will add tou your satisfaction of the product. You can make a $100 sub sound phenomenal in a proper enclosure, and a $400 sub sound like $hit in a prefab or poorly constructed one.

Your original question - with all things equal except the subwoofer, the subwoofer with the higher Xmax should yield the most SPL - due only to the fact of air displacement.

If you have additional questions or need clarification dont hesitate to ask.

SOURCE: what is the best enclosure volume for 15

Subwoofers differ in only one way. You get an "Open Air" and a "Closed air" subwoofer, That being said, you'll have to check on your magnet which one you have to make the boxes for that sub. If it is an "Open air" Subwoofer, you should see a "wire mesh" or "grid" in the centre, at the back of the magnet. If it is a "Closed air", the magnet will be solid with no hole whatsoever.

If it is a "Open air" sub, your boxes should be sealed with silicone, and no ports are to be cut in your box.

With "Closed air" subs, you should have 2 ports below your sub and the port sizes should be around 50mm in diameter. You should start with a 100mm long piece in the one box and add 50mm increments to "tune" the port up to 250mm, depending on the frequency of bass you require.

On a 15 inch subwoofer ranging between 80Hz and 120Hz, the box size required should be around 27 liters, meaning that you will end up with a box of 16 inches high, x 16 inches wide, x 16 inches deep. Or 320mm high, x 320mm wide, x 320mm deep.
Enjoy!

Will a Lanzar Vibe 286 4000 watt amp push a power acoustik fubr 12 700 rms 1800 max ....

Yes it should do the job. You will need to wire the sub in series and make sure you have a 4ohm load on the amp. It should be right at around 700 watts RMS @ 12-13 volts.

I have a fifteen inch lanzar max pro p145d and want to put it in an 06 mustang. need to know how much air space i need to make it rumble right

I would go with a sealed because ur trunk is small and sealed would be the smaller box. I recommend 2.0-2.75 cubic ft sealed. for vented would be 3.25-3.50 after woofer displacement. Also I would recommend a reverse wedge meaning the woofer would go on the back side of the box not the angel side because u can slide the box in further saving u a little more room. I'm doing that same box now for the same sub but in a Nissan 2001 sentra. My box when done will be 2.78 cu.ft. After displacement. Sealed. 720 watt rms power acoustick 2ohm stable mono block to get longer life out of my sub.

Trying to find out wat the watts are on a jlw3 12 and a jlw0 12

The JL 12W0 needs 125 watts RMS. Sealed box it needs 1.5 cubic feet. Ported it needs 2.5 cubic feet.
The JL 12W3 needs 300 watts RMS. Sealed box it needs 1.25 cubic feet. Ported it needs 1.75 cubic feet. I wouldn't suggest running these subs together.

What size enclosure (sealed)for Alpine 12"1242D(METAL Music)

  • 12" subwoofer with dual 4-ohm voice coils
  • Kevlar reinforced pulp cone with Santoprene™ rubber surround
  • cast aluminum frame with perimeter venting
  • frequency response: 25-500 Hz
  • power handling: 200-500 watts RMS (250 watts per coil)
  • peak power: 1,500 watts
  • sensitivity: 85 dB
  • top-mount depth: 7-5/8"
  • sealed box volume: 0.57-1.0 cu. ft.
  • ported box volume: 0.75-2.0 cu. ft.

  • For rock, i actually have 2 seperate 12's in slot port boxes i built facing forward. Facing forward reduces a little resonance and spl, but keeps alot of that annoying rattle off your tag lol

    Hope this helps :)

    2 12" Hitron 600w subs in a BandPass box

Remember that driving a load with an underpowered amp will probably cause more problems than having a more powerful amp that is not running flat out. 200-300W amp would be ok, but I would suggest going for the biggest you can afford. If you crank up the volume on the smaller amp you will probably get a fair amount of distortion, which may actually damage the speakers. A larger amp will not give as much distortion for the same loudness/volume and give better control of the speakers for a tighter bass..
