Question about Clarion (NAVSIR) SIRIUS Radio Receiver

Clarion SIRIUS Radio Receiver - Not Receiving All Subscribed Channels

Had some car work done recently where they disconnected the battery. Now my Clarion Sirius receiver only gets a small subset of my subscribed channels. When manually trying to tune a Sirius channel I get an "Invalid Message" error on the Clarion display. Some channels come in fine, however. I called Sirius and they sent the updated subscription message... They told me to tune to channel 184 but that is one of the "Invalid Channels". The receiver reverts back to one of the channels that it does receive. Any help in troubleshooting is much appreciated. Thanks.

Please keep me posted and let me know what Clarion says!

This weekend, I'm thinking of trying to recreate the battery disconnect scenario that caused this issue...

I'm fairly certain that, when the battery was reconnected at the auto repair facility, the vehicle was in a building that obstructs the Sirius signal.

I'm going to try disconnecting and reconnecting the battery while the car is outside and has unobstructed access to the Sirius signal - to see if a complete reboot will reset the receiver to be able to get all the channels.

    Have any thoughts on this???

    Thanks.

Disconnecting the battery and reconnecting solved the problem!!! Did it work for you?

i have heard that if you know the code SID# you can program it to any of your sirus systems to activate them is that true? If so, how do you do it?

I had the same problem with my DX945MP. I had to disconnenct the battery to work on my car, as a shadetree mechanic, of course! Reconnecting the battery under the same tree resulted in an incomplete update for Sirius. This was resolved by moving the car to an area with an unobstructed view of the sky and disconnecting the battery for a few minutes.

My DX445 does the same thing. Here's my method for fixing it, it should work for any similar Clarion receiver:

1. If possible, make sure the radio is turned off when disconnecting the battery. If the radio turns itself on when the vehicle is restarted (for example after jump starting or battery disconnect for a few seconds only), turn the radio off.

2. Disconnect the battery by removing the negative battery cable from the battery. Leave it disconnected.

NOTE: Car batteries can be dangerous things. If you're unsure how to do this safely, get an experiences mechanic to help you.

3. Reset the radio. On my radio this is done by removing the faceplated, and pressing a tiny button for 30 seconds. Your radio may be different.

4. After waiting at least 20 minutes, reconnect the battery.

5. My radio displayes 'System Check -- Press Power'. After pressing the power button, the display reverts to the clock.

6. Turn on the radio. It should work fine on the broadcast bands.

7. Select 'Sirius'. The radio should display 'Updating'. Don't touch anything until the radio finishes its update phase. When it's done, it should tune to Sirius channel 1 and play as normal.

8. This should restore normal tuning. reset your presets and preferences.

What seems to happen is that the radio gets stuck in a 'Category Select' condition, but not all the categories will load, and manual tuning will not allow, say, Radio Classics to play when the radio is stuck in Pop mode.

On occasion (maybe 1 time out of 10), the radio hangs while doing the 'updating' in Sirius mode. If this happens, just shut off the radio and start over. I've never had to do the brute force reset more than twice since I stumbled on this method.

This totally worked, My battery died, put in a new one, satellite radio said Invalid channel and was stuck on channel 1. I stupidly called Sirius first, an hour and a half of tech support and they said my new battery had shorted out my convertor box for my Clarion deck. Thanks.... I did one google search ONE. Pulled the negative off my battery and my faceplate, and my fuse. Waited 20 minutes. Plugged it all back in and what you know... WORKS! System Check, Updating Thanks guys, shorted out, ha I didn't think that happened.

I had the same problem with my Mazda CX-9. It was in the garage for an extended period. When my wife first drove it, the channels tried to reload, but not all of them were available. I could not get 184, and some of the news and weather channels. I called Serius, and they could not fix the problem. They said it was probably my antenna. I read this thread and disconnected my battery. I had to leave it disconnected for about 10 minutes for it to reset. It came back up on channel 184 and reset all of the channels. Thanks.

Thank you so much for posting these comments. I had the same problem and was able to rectify it based off this page. I took my truck to a dealer and had some work done. They obviously disconnected my battery while in their big metal shop...once, re-enabled, it looks like Sirius went to update and was not able to get a good signal. I kept getting "Invalid Channel" for every channel.I called Sirius, resent the signal, etc. Nothing was working. They didn't know the solution. Tuning to 184 for an update was not working either. Low and behold I found this page...I pulled the radio fuse for my Clarion, while parked outside, and reinitialized....It worked!!
I was so mad dealing with this issue, that had I not found this page, I was ready to go buy another deck to put in the truck...this saved me some cashola!

I had the same problem with my Clarion Sirius receiver. I found that simply pulling the radio fuse instead of disconnecting the battery worked great. Thought this might be easier for some to do. I was receiving no (0) channels. I pulled the fuse. Put the car in accessory power to make sure the deck wouldn't power up. Waited a few minute and replaced the fuse. The radio performed the full update and all is well!

Disconnected my battery last weekend while doing some mechanical repairs in the driveway. I have a clarion DX545MP head unit and CL1 tuner. I'm so glad you guys put this up here because I just got off the phone with Sirius and after resending the init signal 2x, they said it was a problem with my Clarion headunit and referred me to their support dept. I'll try to repeat the disconnect again and hope for the best. Like I said, I was in the driveway with a clear shot to the sky but I turned the car on and off again (testing) and not paid attention to the radio updating and turned it off before it fully completed it's programming. I'll post back tomorrow.

I have had the same issue with both a CMD4 Clarion Marine Radio and a VRX745 Clarion Head Unit in my vehicle. For the head unit in my vehicle, there is a reset button that does NOT work to update the receiver with missing Sirius channels (but it will look like its doing it). Using info from this site, I disconnected the positive battery terminal, waited a few minutes, then reconnected the battery. Went into vehicle, turned on VRX745 head unit and it walked me through set up. This time it actually performed an update and I got all my channels back.
For the CMD4, I did not try the battery disconnect because I wasn't aware it might work. What I did was manually scan by category. It's a pain, but if you go to a "pop" channel and tell it to scan (don't remember exactly how, but you'll find it) it will scan for all channels that fall under the "pop" category. It will skip over all other categories, so hopefully you have a "valid" channel in each of the categories. I then tuned to a "country" category channel and scanned, then a "entertainment" category, and so on. Got most of the channels back that way.

I am having the same problem, i was able to manually get about 37 channels by holding down the BND button which changed the mode to manual tuning which allowed me to manually move to individual stations. By going bak and forth I was able to add more stations, but once I got to channel 38 (which is not a used channel) I could not add more channels. I don't know if this will help you get a few more channels. I am going to try to call clarion to see if they can help, if you get it fixed, please post what you did. Thanks and hopefully we can get this fixed

I was thinking of trying the disconnect myself. Let me know if that works and if not I will give clarion a call this weekend. Unfortunately I have not had a chance to do it yet and i cant find there e-mail. I will post something once I get a hold of them if the disconnect does not work. I know that when I took my car in, the face plate was off, so that might make a difference as well. I don't know if yours was off and if it should be on when you retry. Also, my model # i DX545MP, is yours the same? Cheers and good luck.

I have still not had a chance to get to it, but hopefully this coming week I will give it a try. Im glad that fixed it and I will be trying the same thing when I can get my hands on some tools to disconnect the battery. Thanks much for the info.
    Cheers

Can my sirius sportster 2 won't receive channel 210

Yep, new radio. The old Sirius radios won't go above 184 (most won't even get above 145) and the old XM radios won't go past 256, so to get the "Xtra" channels you want a new XM radio like the Onyx PLUS, or The XM Edge - both will give you not only all the regular channels, but an eXtra 20 channels or so that you can only get online or on a new 2.0 radio. Let me know how it works out for you. Regards, Engineer Scott

Clarion Marine Problem w Sirius CeNet Unit

When a CD changer or Sirius satellite receiver is added to a system, the source unit’s main wiring harness must be disconnected before the changer and/or satellite receiver’s CeNET cable is connected to the source unit. Otherwise, the source unit will not “recognize” that a CD changer or Sirius satellite receiver has been added.

My sirius reciever in my boat worked fine until this year now it wont work antenna is only two years old and it is a high quality marine antenna could it be the reciever it is hooked to a clarion radio...

Oxidation from humidity could have tarnished a connector somewhere. Make sure all connectors are clean and shiny first. It could be that the receiver is bad. A stereo shop should be able to check that for you easily.

Have just bought sirius and can't get oprah. there is no channell 195

Did you get just a MUSIC-ONLY package or the whole regular package each month? If you have a regular $12.95 monthly sub (+taxes +RIAA fees) then you should get the "O". You need to have your radio "refreshed" - you can call Sirius with your serial number and ask them to 'refresh" your radio. They will have you set it to a specific channel and leave it on and alone for 1/2 hour. Then you should have all your channels that you're subscribed to. Good luck!

Clarion ADX 5655z car radio

Hello cheriemd, To adress your first problem i would suggest disconnecting your battery and then reconnecting it, this should trip the radio and bring it back to default settings. As for the second question, Yes you can play your mp3 player with your car radio. There are differnt ways you may approach this, i woudl suggest buying a radio connector that will boardcast its own frequency from there you will be able to switch to that cannel and play. If this is not the case please write back and i would gladly help.
Please post what you do and how you did it I look forward to your posts

Sirius Radio Invalid Channel message

1) Do you have a Sirius account?

2) Have you called Sirius and given the serial number of that receiver?

Those are the first two things you have to do to get a Sirius receiver working. (The original owner could have changed his account to use his new receiver, if he has one.) Go to http://www.sirius.com/install - the "activate" part - for details.
