Hi,
you can if you have Windows Backup set on.
Right click on the file, click on Properties, Click on Previous versions.
You cannot if you don't have it on.

When i click on new folder option it does nothing

Which operating system ?
Restore Folder Options in Windows XP
Windows XP has several viewing options that you can modify for folders in Windows Explorer. These include being able to customize whether you activate items by clicking them once or twice, whether Windows displays hidden and protected files and several other options.
If you have played with these options in an attempt to determine how you prefer to use your computer, you may accidentally reach the point where you have changed so many items that you are unsure of how to revert to the original configuration.
For this reason, Windows XP allows you to restore the folder options to their defaults by clicking a button.
Open Windows Explorer.
Two of the fastest ways to do this are by clicking the "Start" button and then clicking "My Computer" and by double clicking the "My Computer" icon on the desktop.

Click the "Tools" drop-down menu and select "Folder Options."

Click the "General" tab, and then click the "Restore Defaults" button if you would like to restore the default settings for the "Common Tasks" bar on the left side of folders, whether new folders open in the same window or a new window and whether items open with a single click or double click.

Click the "View" tab, and then click the "Restore Defaults" button if you would like to restore any advanced view settings to their defaults, such as whether Windows displays hidden and protected files.

Click the "Reset All Folders" button if you would like to restore the default viewing option to all folders, such as the detailed view or list view.

Click "OK" to save your changes.

How do I restore a word document that I accidentally saved another document over?

Not possible, once the word document is over written with another document using the same file name. If you had made a backup of the document then you could retrieve the backed up document.

HOW DO I RESTORE WINDOWS VISTA ON MY COMPAQ SR500

Your Compaq computer includes a recovery partition that allows you to restore your operating system in the event you get a virus or your hard drive crashes. Use the Compaq Recovery Manager to restore the computer to the factory operating condition. Only use the recovery method as a final step in the troubleshooting process as all the software and personal files stored to the computer's hard drive will be erased.

Click the "Start" icon and type "recovery" into the "Start Search" field. Click the "Recovery Manager" option that appears in the list of results. Click "Advanced Options," and click the "System Recovery" option. Click "Next" and the computer will restart into the recovery mode. Click the "System Recovery" option and click "Next." Click "Next" in the "System Recovery" window to launch the recovery process. The partition will reformat your hard drive and restore your Windows Vista operating system to the original condition

My desk top is a compact presario 6400 nx and i need all files and componets that have been deleted back in the system to be able to have it run better

I suggest you use the Restoration Disk.

Start your computer put the disk in your optical drive tray.
When asked click on Non-Destructive Restore. (Repair)

If you click on Destructive Restore, (Full Installation), you will wipe out all personal documents you have saved.

For example:
Files in My Pictures, My Videos, My Music, personal documents you have created, and documents you have downloaded.

Non-Destructive Restore, or Repair, will repair the basic Windows files.

If you do not have the Restoration Disk for YOUR computer, you can order it from HP Support. (HP bought out Compaq)

In the USA there is no charge for the Restoration Disk.
The shipping and handling is Not free, however.
$17 for a 5 to 7 day ship, $24 for a 2 to 3 day ship.

This is the toll-free number to call in the USA, (24 hours a day, 7 days a week),

I am not familiar with support overseas, however here is the HP Support page for Worldwide,

http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/wwcontact_us.html

Write down the Product Number, and Serial Number from your computer, to give to the nice person on the phone.
You'll find it in the white Service Tag.

The Service Tag will be located on the back of your computer tower, or up on the side.

Have a Compaq desktop in separate office. Even when I reboot, I have a black screen with a blinking cursor in top left corner. Help!

Suggest you use the Restoration Disk. (CD)
Turn on the computer, put the Restoration Disk in your optical drive's tray.

When asked click on Non-Destructive Restore. (Repair)

If you click on Destructive Restore, (Full Installation), you will wipe out all personal documents you have saved.

If you do not have the Restoration Disk for YOUR computer, you can order it from HP Support. (HP bought out Compaq)

(Your is capitalized, because it has to be the Restoration Disk for a Compaq Presario SR1620NX, and for THAT computer.
Otherwise use a fresh genuine copy of Windows)

In the USA there is no charge for the Restoration Disk.
