Question about Brother CS-8072 Computerized Sewing Machine

Thread won't catch bobbin

I have a Brother cs-8072 machine. I've never had a problem with it. I was sewing some curtains, and broke a needle. I've replaced the needle, but it won't catch the bobbin. The needle goes up and down just fine, but for some reason, it won't catch the bobbin, so it won't sew. Any sigestions would be helpful. I'd rather not have to take it in to be fixed if I can help it. I've had it for about 4 years. It was bunching the thread up under the presure foot. The needle was cutting through some of the bobbin thread. I'd stop and take it out, and take the bad thread off of the bobbin, and it would work fine again. I don't use my machine a lot. thanks going Nuts

I desided to try to see if I could fix it myself. I took it all apart, and the casing that the bobbin fits into, got out of place. It had went past a metal piece that stops it from going to far. I took that apart as well, and put it back. I put everything back together, and it works great now. Even though I'm a woman, I've taken things apart, to see if I can fix them, before I take it in. I watch it, and see what it's supose to do, and see what I have to do to get it where it should be. It's working like it's new now. I did clean it and iol it while I had it apart, so hopefully, it'll be good for years to come. I'm sorry if I took up your time. If someone else has this problem, maybe you can try the same thing I did. Hopefully, this may help someone else.

I also tried to clean the bobbin holder and replace it. I have done this before so I'm sure I have it back in correct but the thread still won't catch the bobbin. Thanks linda

It's exactly the same problem, the bobbin thread won't catch. Thanks

I had the same problem last winter. I took my machine to a small brother repair shop. The guy charged me $300.00 to put in new shuttle. I haven't used it much since then. I tried to sew curtains today and I am having the same problem again. Im going to buy a new machine but not a brother.

I had the exact same problem as sewing75 - I tried and tried to work on it but nothing. FInally took it in and was told that the bobbin shuttle/holder (the metal part that doesn't come out) jumped it's timing teeth - probably when the fabric got all jammed in it - he's going to have to take the whole thing apart and reset it - I thought this might be the case since when I was looking at where the needle was going down, it didn't seem like it was in the right place with the bobbin shuttle. Anyway, hope that helps - you'll probably need to take it in. Cost me $80 for repair.

I hope to God nobody else pays more for a repair than the machine is worth.

It's ridiculous to spend $300 for that repair since the machine is available almost everywhere for way under $200. You could have thrown that one in the trash and bought a new one cheaper than the repair!!
I paid $129 for mine, had the same problem with two, yes, two of them, and sent them back and was sent another which so far is working fine. There seems to be a flaw in the engineering of that machine since so many people are experiencing the same problem. The machines DO have a warranty so please, please, be careful of unscrupulous repair people. Oh, I'm sorry but I need to mention that I bought my machine from eBay and it was a refurbished machine sold by Ken Sewing and Vacumm in Muscle Shoals, Al. They stand behind their products and were very nice to deal with, they even paid for the return shipping on the two that I returned. Hope this helps y'all.

Try installing a brand new needle (verify it is installed correctly). If it still does not pick up the bobbin thread, the needle/hook may be out of time, requiring service.

My brother cs 8072 stitch length not working.

Are the feed dogs fully up and clean?
With the unthreaded machine transport a piece of paper with the feed dogs?
Is there a presser foot pressure adjustment? -- if so, it may need tweaking.
Do you have a tangle of thread under the needle plate (= throat plate) or hook and bobbin case area?
Do you have the stitch length set to greater than 0?

My machine is suddenly locking up and the thread is getting tangled underneath the fabric.

Check the bobbin tension and that the thread is tight around the bobbin. Make sure that the bobbin is in the right way around - the bobbin thread should double back on itself coming out of the bobbin holder.

Bobbin thread won't engage.

The bobbin case is not in the shuttle.

Raise the needle to it's highest position.

Lift the lever on the back of the bobbin case and hold it open as you insert the case into the shuttle; arm on the case pointing up. You may have to turn a bit to the left or right - it will click when in place.

Brother CS-8150 Problems with bobbin thread

Double check to see if the bobbin is in upside down and the thread is feeding from the bobbin spool in the wrong direction.

I did this once after several years using the same machine, some days are just not as easy as they should be!
