SOURCE: mitsubishi wd-73837 doesn't turn on at all, no

I'm sure it's nothing you did wrong. I maybe a blown fuse inside causing the problem or a bad power supply. But, I wouldn't open up the TV. It may void the warranty by playing around inside.
Best to take it back and exchange it for another one. Tv repairs now and days cost an arm and a leg. Use warranty to full advantage.

It's an either/or choice. Normally, speakers are cut off when headphones are connected.

WD 73837 HAS MENU PROBLEM.ALL MENUS WILL NOT FUNCTION WHEN ACCESSED.AFTER ACCESSED THE TV CAN ONLY BE SHUT OFF BY USING THE CONTROL PANEL.

Sounds like corrupted firmware. Contact any service technician. However, try a reset to this set, and check before doing a firmware update. There are two types of reset to TVs. The first is simple to do; a Hard Reset. The other is somewhat skilled; is a Factory Reset (System Reset). To make it a hard reset, just unplug the TV from AC mains wall socket, and re-plug it back after 15 minutes or so. If you do this by overnight; will be better. This procedure will make it a hard reset. If you want to make it a system reset [Factory Reset]; you have to enter its service mode option, and select the factory reset option. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Pull up older posts. Surf the site with patience. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/
Service mode entry, adjust and exit procedure to many popular brand TVs are given. Never forget to exit the service mode, after all adjustments have been done

I have a blinking yellow status light on my mitsubishi 73837

blinking yellow indicates no lamp or the lamp door is open. if you had the back off you may have gotten the door switch aligned improperly. the door switch is located just inside the lamp door.
the lamp may also be bad.

I get sound but no picture then the tv shuts off after 5min. It is a Mitsubishi wd-73837

Popping noises are not a good sign; I suspect the sound came from the catastrophic death of an electrolytic capacitor or worse, the death a a power semiconductor.
Open the lower cabinet and using a good light, look for a smaller, separate board with fairly large parts on it; some cylindrical in shape, others block-like that may have copper wire showing.
If, as common, this board is plugged with connectors into other parts of the system, you may be able to swap the failed board out for a replacement bought from a Mitsubishi service center.Expect to pay $100-$150 US if the set is no longer under warranty.

7.1 surround sound will not work with a coax connection OR Composite (yellow video with Red and White audio). You either need to use an HDMI cable or the Component connection (Red, Green, and Blue connection along with the Red and White audio or the optical audio connection).
