Also the glow plug indicator light is illuminated when in this position. I hold the key in that position until the glow plug light goes out, and then crank the engine. On really cold days I repeat the glow plug cycle several times before cranking.

IF EVERYTHING IS GOOD CHECK TO SEE IF THE MOTOR IS GOOD
You'll have to take your DS apart to make sure that the battery hasn't exploded. Even if the DS says the battery is good that's not always true.
If the battery appears to be good you might want to send in your DS for repair. If the battery seems to be broken you can buy a new one on Ebay or anywhere else on the internet.
The clicking you hear usually indicates a poor battery or battery connection. Have your battery load tested first. You may have a bad cell in it causing it to be weak enough not to be able to supply the amps needed to turn the starter. If you haven't had the battery load tested then it could be bad. My guess is that the battery is bad. Good luck.
