if you can boot normally i suggest going to filehippo.com or cnet and download a free disk partioner and it will remove the boot volume for you. under run, msconfig, there is a boot option select the boot mount you want that may fix it let me know
The computer cant find a bootable device. Either your boot sector on your Hard drive is gone/damaged (most likely a virus) or the Hard drive failed. Start with booting with your windows disk and try to do a repair installation.
All drivers should have been automatically installed, they are already in the kernel. If you don't have them then it's unlikely that they are available for your distro so install another one. I use http://pclinuxos.com/
THERE SHOULD BE A FEW SCREWS ON THE UNDERNEATH OF THE LAPTOP, UNDO AND YOU SEE THE HARD-DRIVE, DISCONNECT IT TAKE TO THE SHOP, BUY NEW ONE REPLACE IN REVERSE ORDER.
It is possible that the HD has failed completely. However, this is a relatively new laptop, so I would suspect that is not the case. Sometimes the HD will lose contact for one reason or another. This can usually be cured by removing the HD and reinstalling it, which will remove any crud from the contacts.
If the machine is still under warranty, call Dell support. They will walk you through diagnostics to determine the actual problem.
If you're not sure of the warranty status, go here:
a clean installation it is recommended to this service at least once every 8 months, it wipes all your hard drive from data, programs, bugs, errors and viruses this will 100% solve your problem guaranteed. for xp, insert the xp installation disk restart the computer and a message will come up asking to press any key to boot from cd. once you do that "i mean you press a key" then a blue screen will load then asks you to press Enter to install xp. 1. press enter 2. select the partion and press enter 3. select continue "it warns you to delete files" 4. select format "quick" 5. now let it do the rest and follow instructions 6. when the installation is finished you'll notice its like new again, some computers will need drivers which you can get from manufacturer website. download and install them. that's it but for a detailed information click here
