Check the connection to the battery. Be sure it is making a good contact. Then check the voltage from ground to just before fuse and just after fuse making sure that you are having the correct voltage.

SOURCE: jl 500/1 no sound, green light

This is an indication that the MOSFETs are ok but the driver stages may have a problem. Get a schematic find the pre-amp stages and test the voltages levels there as compared to the schematic. I do believe that you will find the problem in the pre-driver pre-amp atages.

SOURCE: i bought a 500/1 jl audio amp and also a w7 10 sub

if its cutting off and right back on then check your ground and your power wire makes sure both are connected good and none of your fuse's are blown, either that or you got a wire hooked up backwards in the sub.. but my guess is that the sub is hooked up wrong... that sub should be hooked up in a series or in parallel,

ok if your running just one speaker, it should be hooked up like this and 2 speakers are a different way...

this is parallel :pos to pos , neg to neg, then one wire coming from pos on sub to pos on amp then neg on sub to neg on amp but bridge the amp on your amp should be 2 pos and 2 neg in two different channels take the pos off the sub into the pos on 1 channel and then the neg from sub to the neg on the other channel,

this is series : on the sub it will go pos to neg then the other neg and pos will go to the amp, but make sure the pos and neg r on different sides of the sub, dont hook them both to the same coil

if your need more help give me your email and ill send you a pic of how to do it...

SOURCE: will a JL audio 1000/1 amp run a orion HCCA 15

Hello evopower,

The JL 1000/1 will power the Orion HCCA OK.

It is stable only to 1.5 ohms so your best choice would be the 15.4 with dual 4ohm voice coils. In parallel, this would offer a 2ohm impedance. The 15.2 could only be wired for either a 1ohm load (too low) or a 4ohm load (less power).

Hope this helps.

SOURCE: JL Audio 500/1 Amp

Do you get sound if you set it on full? If you don't get sound in any way it maybe broked. Do you smell burnt components? Is the protection light on? If so you probably have a shorted transistor inside. If everything looks normal but has no sound at all. The preamp circuit is probably not getting power due to a malfuctioning power supply circuit. The way a car amp works is it has a DC-DC converter, which steps up the 12 volts to two supply voltage. One is usually a -35V, an the other is +35V. To a totall of 70V. Power transistors don't operate efficiently on 12 volts thats why it is designed like that. A PWM (pulse width modulation) circuit which consist of a chip, and various components connected to it drives an array of Power FET(field effect transsitors) usually conected in parallel to add power. These FET drive two or more "powder iron core" transformer. The other side of the transformer is connected to large diodes, providing power to the transsistors that actually drive your speakers. The supply voltage to the section preamp section is usually the same as the battery voltage. This preamp section filter high frequency for things such as low pass, high pass etc, and through many stage of amplification using small transistor, the final stage is the large transistors that drive the speakers. If you can tell me more info I can help you with a step by step guide on fixing the amp.

I have a jl 500.1 and a 8w7. The sub is playing but not really it will play sometimes but most of the time i am getting almost nothing. Am i using the wrong settings or a bad connection or blown sub?

Sounds like a bad rca connection. You need both rca jacks to be plugged in from your head unit, both left and right or you will not have full power you'll have half power to your sub/subs. Check your sub with a volt meter and see what it reads. Make sure if your head unit has a sub volume make sure it's turned up. Alot of people don't realize they have a seperate subwoofer volume on there deck and it's set to low, so check that. You could have bad rca cables. If all that is ruled out(best way by trying a different amp) the amp itself might be having problems. Don't think it would be in protect mode either.
Let me know if you have'nt allready.

So my jl 500/1 v2 has power and no audio... i get 3 ohm when i use the voltmeter on the amp the sub but no voltage? is this a fuse problem or am i an *** who has no idea how to troubleshoot

Okay lets go step by step. First check and sure you have battery voltage and twelve volt turn on on the remote term. of your amp. Be sure u have a ground also. Next take your speaker leads disconnect them and pop them with a battery, and make sure it pops. I(f that all passes you need to make sure your amp is getting an input signal because you could have a bad rca cable.

I have a JL Audio 500/1 that powers on just fine. But there is no output coming from the sub.

Did you check the fuse(s) on the amp itself ?
One or more of those fuses are for protection on the output side of your amp.
What about the 12 volt power from your battery, have you checked for 12 volts present at the input power side of your amp?
Don't forget that you need just as good of a ground as you need power supply!!!!!
Good luck !

JL Amp isn't powering subs and speakers

silly as it sounds, you may want to check your EQ settings on your headunit. Things like sub volume, SLA, loudness and balance. When they replaced your battery, those old settings were lost.

Backfeed problems

back feed can be caused by running your rca's beside your power wire, and if you don't have your remote wire connected properly your amp might not turn on, or off depending on the amp. it could also be your power wires (acc and constant power) on your deck are mixed up, you would be able to tell if it cant remember the time

500watts sounds about right to me,i wouldnt go any higher as you risk popping the sub and haveing a melt down in the coil section of the subwoofer.
