Question about Samsung 1.8 Cu. Ft. Over-the-Range Microwave

1 Answer

Having an issue with the keypad - not responding

The keypad on my microwave stopped responding - I unplugged it and plugged it back in. I briefly saw the SE display, then it started working again. But it would stop after a while. None of the keys work. Is there a way that I can fix this? Thank you,

I have the same "SE" problem. After reading this thread here, I realise it's likely the keypad problem, which explains the microwave's behaviour (no key was working).

So there were two possibilities. (1)keypad failure and (2) bad connection.

Obviously the easiest thing I could start with is to clean the connection. So I first take the cover off. Behind the keypad is a circuit board. In addition to a few connections between the circuit board and other parts of the microwave, there is a ribbon connecting the keypad to the circuit board.

Loose the plastic on the connection, pull the ribbon out from the socket. I then used spirit to clean the exposed copper connections. Put every thing back to place.

Voila, it's working again and we have been living happily ever after.....

SOURCE: Samsung Microwave Oven shows -SE- on the display. Why?

-SE- error means you have a shorting membrane keypad.

Since it's less than one year old, it would be fully covered under warranty. I'd suggest contacting the manufacturer to get it fixed free.

You can find your nearest Samsung-authorized service center here or call Samsung's Service Division at 800-932-3837.

SOURCE: 5E (SE) error showing on

The "SE" error indicates a shorted membrane keypad.

SOURCE: Samsung microwave SMH8165W displaying error code -SE- and continuously beeps.

SE means system error, the keypad has a short in the membrane, or the control board has issues.

GE Microwave (Over the Range: Model HVM1540DPBB) was stopping operation. It would beep, and the display would show garbage. I would unplug it, then plug it into the outlet, then it would display "keypad...

make this test and fix it. God bless you

  1. Inspect the power cordUnplug the power cord and check for voltage at the outlet. Also inspect for damage, shorts, or burn marks that can be a possible safety hazard.
  2. Bad door switchIf your microwave does not work at all and you know everything is plugged in properly and the outlet is functioning, then also check the door hooks and the door release button. Using a volt-ohm meter on RX1, check your terminals. When your microwave door is closed you should have a reading of zero. Once the door is open the reading should change to infinity. If these readings do not match up, replacement of the door switch is necessary.
  3. Blown fusesTo determine if your fuse has blown out, which may attribute to your microwave not running, you need to pull the fuse out using a pair of fuse pullers. Lay it down and using a volt-ohm meter on RX1, check both ends of the fuse in question. If you do not get a reading of zero, then you will need to replace the fuse.
  4. Bad fan motorLocate the fan and remove the leads. Again using the volt-ohm meter on RX1, check the terminals. If an infinity reading is displayed, it means that the fan has gone bad and requires replacement.

No key's work. Display and inside light is working

The Keypad is either faulty, or disconnected. Open the case, and remove the screws, holding the outer shell on. Inside, there should be a small board that covers the Keypad. Check to see if there is a ribbon cable, or some other type of connection going from the board to another part of the microwave. If all of the wires are connected, then you will probably need to replace the keypad.

The "6" pad on the microwave's membrane keypad is shorted.

If this is under warranty, refer to your owner's manual to contact Frigidaire customer service about finding a local servicer to fix it under warranty.

If it's out of warranty, looking at the retail price of this model, it may not be economical to have it repaired.

If you or a friend can get a new keypad from Frigidaire at a decent price, you can refer to a handy guide with pictures showing you what's typically involved.

Touch screen displays is lit up , but will not respond by touching any of the promts. I have unpluged the unit hopeing to reset no change. unit was working fine the day before.

HELLO.

The solution is to troubleshoot the microwave as explained below.

1 Check the power supply. Make sure the microwave is firmly plugged into a working electrical outlet and that your wall outlet is active if your home uses outlets controlled by a wall switch. Check your home's fuses or circuit breakers to ensure they have not been tripped. Without power the microwave will not respond to any input.

2 Make sure the parental lock is inactive. Some ovens, like the one shown in the image above, feature a keypad lock to prevent children playing with the controls. Most keypad locks can be cancelled by holding down a button or combination of buttons for a few seconds.

3 Make sure the door is firmly closed. Some microwave ovens will not allow any control panel input if the door is open.

4 Remove the microwave from the power, wait 10 seconds, then plug it back in. This will reset the microwave oven if there is a temporary problem with the software.

5 Press the "Stop/Cancel" button several times to cancel the current operation and return the microwave to standby mode. Re-enter your cooking instructions using the keypad as usual.

please let me know the outcome..

thanks.

Kenmore microwave - unresponsive keypad

Repaired the unresponsive keypad on my older Kenmore (model 721.68100): Unplug. Remove integral cover for top and sides which is held in place by 5 metal screws. The cover then slides toward the rear. Unplug two connectors to back of keypad and clean them (I used contact spray cleaner). Some of the components retain a charge even when unplugged.

Broken microwave

The first thing I would suggest is a hard reset. Unplug the unit for a minute or so. Then plug it back in, set the clock and try again.

If that doesn't work, leave it unplugged for maybe an hour.

Then please let us know if the hard reset does not fix it.

(It may need work on the controller or keypad)

Kenmore elite microwave oven displays "Locked" and will not respond

My Kenmore Elite microwave (don't have the model number in front of me) also mysteriously locked its own keypad (we were sitting in an adjacent room, heard a strange beep, and got up to find the LED reading "Locked."). I pressed and held down the Stop/Clear button for ~10 seconds and it returned to normal.

Microwave is on but the keypad doesnt respond

It may be in child lock mode. Your owner's manual will cover that. On the Sanyo EM-S5595, for example, you turn the child lock off and on by pressing and holding the STOP/CLEAR pad for 3 seconds. Yours may be the same. You may also have a bad keypad, which in many cases can be replaced. A bad keypad may be worn out due to age, may be damaged, or it may have gotten wet or otherwise contaminated. Moisture and contamination can be caused by not using the fan when boiling on the stove top, direct spraying of cleaners, by storing the microwave in an unheated garage or shed, or by infestation. I warn my customers to never spray cleaner directly onto the microwave keypad, since the liquid can get inside and "lock up" or even ruin the keypad or controller. Instead apply an alcohol-based cleaner (such as the purple kind) to a cloth (since paper towels can scratch) and gently wipe it off. I suggest to my customers that they NEVER use any ammonia-based cleaner (like the blue stuff) on a microwave, since the ammonia will crack and distort polycarbonate plastics. If it looks like you need service, this is a good place to start: http://www.sanyoservice.com/
