Has there been ANY damage? Have you tried another Cord/Charger with the EXACT same power specs? Has the AC jack been damaged due to pulling on the cord while plugged it? Unplug, remove battery, plug in, try to reboot. Has it been overheating? Fan, vents, heatsink clean?

Regarding your question you could try a power discharge for your device:
- disconnect the AC adapter
- unplug the battery (if detachable)
- press and hold down the power button for 30 seconds (to discharge the components)
- plug the AC adapter only (without the battery if it is detachable)
- turn on the unit

If the battery is not detachable, please follow the procedure with the battery attatched.

- turn off the unit
- disconnect the AC adapter
- press and hold down the power button for 30 seconds (to discharge the components)
- plug the AC adapter
- turn on the unit

I have an IBM T40 that worked great until yesterday. When I powered it up, the 4 lights (battery, etc) flickers but the laptop does not power up. I removed the battery, paused, tried with and without the...

There are a few things left you can try. First take the battery out and make sure the unit is unplugged. Next push the power button a few times to discharge any power inside the unit. Now put the battery back in and while plugging in the unit see if the charge light comes on or flickers at all.

If it flickers and goes out, you have a bad power cord or worse a bad jack on the laptop's main board. If it never comes on, you have a bad power cord or mainboard. The battery is probably dead (doesen't have a charge left in it.)

You said this happens regardless of if the battery is inserted. Have you tried powering up the unit with no battery installed and just the power plug?

I'd see about gettting a replacement cord first. If that doesen't do it you probably have a bad board.

Suddenly died with blue screen of death. will not turn on again. when I press power button, it lights up and battery light lights up also. as soon as I take finger off the button, nothing. tried...

No guarantee but you can try this. Remove the battery and unplug the AC adapter. Hold down power button for 30 seconds. Plug in AC adapter but leave battery out. Try to restart computer. If it starts, reinstall battery. It worked on a Gateway I was working on last week. Worth a try.

When I turn it on, the lights turn on and then go off. Nothing on the screen

Your battery may be completely discharged. Plug it to the power cord of the charger, wait 10 mins and try again.
If this doesn't help, you may want to try resetting the BIOS: unplug the charger cord, remove the rechargeable battery and the BIOS battery and wait 10 minutes. Then put everything back and try again

Compaq Presario 2140 laptop won't turn on

I would first remove the battery and leave it unplugged and hold down the power button for 45 seconds. that does a system discharge of power. put the battery back in and try the power again. Write back if this does not resolve your issue.

No Power

Whenever issues like this pop up, the first thing to do is look for ruptured or bulged capacitors. But be very careful not to touch anything unless you know how to discharge the set! Often when capacitors dry out, they don't filter voltage properly, and a ripple detection circuit kicks in shortly after power-on and shuts down the system. Look for a capacitor (they look like litte short batteries) oozing any rust-colored stuff or bulging out the top or bottom (tricky to see, but if the set is discharged a dental mirror helps). Usually the big ones go first. They are cheap to replace, and often fix the problem. If it's more complicated then that, I can't help you
