Your IBM 300 series desktop computer is normally set to boot its operating system directly from the installed hard disk drive.
There are some cases where you may want to boot from a different device, such as loading from the floppy drive to install a new operating system.
In order to change the boot order on the IBM computer you need to access the Basic Input Output System (BIOS) menu.

Close any applications that are still running.
Turn off the IBM 300PI computer and then turn it back on again.
Tap the "F1" key when the "Configuration/Setup Utility" prompt appears at the bottom of the screen.
Tap the down arrow key four times to highlight the "Start Options" entry.

Press the Enter key.
Highlight the "Startup Sequence" entry and then press Enter again.

Scroll down and highlight "First Startup Device."
Press Enter. Scroll through the list of available boot order devices.
Highlight the device you want to use, such as "CD Drive" or "Floppy Drive," and press Enter.

Press the "Escape" key twice.
Highlight "Save Settings" and then tap Enter.
Power off the IBM computer and then power it back on.

How can i boot my dell studio from cdrom so i can reinsall from external drive?

Turn on the machine, press F12 once the Dell splash screen is displayed, the boot menu will show up. From the Boot Menu, use up-down arrow keys on the keyboard and highlight the CD/DVD/CD-RW and press Enter. You will see another menu, select "Boot from Cd-Rom" and press enter to select it. The system will boot up from the CD-Rom. Please note that this settings is only for one time boot, once the system is restarted, the boot sequence will be restored to the previous saved settings. If you wish to set it from the Bios, enter the Bios settings by hitting F2 or Delete (should be shown at the bottom of the Dell splash screen) while you see the Dell Splash Screen. In the Bios settings menu, go to Boot options and make the changes with the boot sequence.

Let me know if you need further help.

Good Luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Comes up no opererating system.sees hard drive and cd rom.does not read vista disk in cd rom.know cd of vista good,do i just need to change out cd rom drive?

I think your PC is trying to boot from a hard drive without an operating system.

You'll need to change the boot option in the bios from HDD to CD.

When the boot screen comes up, look at the bottom of the screen, it'll say something akin to

Select "DEL" for SETUP or F2 for boot options, you can use either, but remember if you choose to change the setup, it will be a permanent change until you reset it.

Hit the requisite button, read the screen to change "The first boot device" to CD. If you change just your boot option, your pc should then boot from the Disk.

If you decide to change the bios (setup) settings you'll need to save and exit. Unless you're very sure, just change the boot option for now.

I want to reformat my computer, my question was how to first boot my cd rom to install...

Start your computer.
When you see the 'Press DEL to enter BIOS SETUP mode", press the 'DEL' key.
Change the "boot-order" to put your CD-ROM as the "first" (highest-priority) boot-device.
Save-and-exit from BIOS setup.
Insert the disk into the CD-ROM.
Your computer should boot from the disk in the CD-ROM.

How can i boot from cd rom compaq evo n410c

HELLO THERE
If you go into bios and change the boot sequense to the cd rom first than the c drive than you should be able to just put the cd rom in the drive and turn off the computer and restart and when it turns back on it should say pressany key to boot from cd rom
and to be perfectly honest with you as long as this is a bootable cd rom you should just have to put in thecd rom and reboot the computer and it should come up just like i said earlier ok?
but if not do like i said and change the boot configuration so the computer boots from the cd rom first ok?
I hope that this has been very helpful for you
best regards mike

SYSTEM SWITCHES ON AND DETECTS ALL THE HARDWARE BUT WONT GIVE ME THE "PRESS ANY KEY TO BOOT FROM CD-ROM OPTION"

Some computers allow you to select an alternate boot device by pressing the F12 key as you boot up.
If your computer doesn't have this option then go into the BIOS configuration and change the boot order and make the CD-ROM the first boot device and the hard drive the second boot device.

Boot cd-rom type:cd-rom/non-emulation booting

No, it's because Microsoft changed the way boot CDs work with SP2. You need an old CD (Windows XP SP1). I had the same problem here, notebook without floppy, it won't boot from the newer XP version CDs (SP2 or SP3) - but an old SP1 CD works!
(Those were all original Microsoft CDs, and the SP2 / SP3 CDs boot just fine on several other PCs I tested. It's just that some old hardware has a problem with the boot mode used on newer Windows CDs.)
