Sounds to me that you dont have a router, you have a hub. If its a real router it would be assigning IP addresses to each computer. Sounds as if you are assigned the same IP to each computer (possibly). Make sure you have your computer set to dynamic IP not static. Instructions here. Other possible issue is the router is set not to manage IP in that case you need to access the router and change it to manage IP. To figure this out Google the make and model of your router to find manual.
Just to verify its an IP issue, turn off the computer that has access and reboot the other one and see if the one your rebooted gets a connection then. If so its a IP issue, if not check the cable connection and drivers for the NIC.
I have a Zyxel DSL modem that incorporates router features, but only has a single Ethernet port. When conneted to a Belkin wireless router I have to turn off NAT (in the Belkin) to gain access to the internet.
Hi, Nat2cool, Have you set the right protocol for the network? Sometimes you have to change it others, just leave the default, such as infrastructure and the like. I had the same issue and it was the protocol, the other is the switch. Make sure it's turn on. You'd be surprised how many people forget to slide the switch to the ON position.
