What is the model number of the monitor? Of course you should know that the back light inverter uses high frequency and it may be beyond the range of your meter

It has completely died, no power, no lights nothing!

Hi Avril
If your LCD TV or monitor has stopped working, or is displaying one of the following symptoms, then it's a candidate for some new capacitors
- Flickering screen
- Screen image disappears after several seconds
- Dim screen
- Slow start
- Power LED on, but no picture
- Unusual colors and/or lines
The primary cause of LCD TV and monitor failure is caused by faulty capacitors. You can examine the capacitors in your LCD TV or monitor and actually see if they are bad.
If they appear bulged on top, then they need to be replaced.
New capacitors will solve a host of problems in LCD monitors and TV's and will extend the life of your monitor or TV by several years.
Check the cables, connectors and connections.
If your TV, flatscreen, or monitor is more than 5 years old it is more like to have suffered a component failure.
Take it to a repair shop.

740N not open

A common problem with monitors is the power supply. The electrolytic capacitors need to be replaced. The power supply is located at the back side of the monitor. The faulty capacitors are easily identified due to their shape (they become deformed after some time of use). It is common practice to replace all the electrolytic capacitors on the power supply (except the one or two big ones - high voltage capacitors). The cost of this repair is very low and it does worth to try (assuming you have soldering/desoldering skills).

Power off ac adopter is ok

remove the rear cover then tried to make a voltage checking since as you said the power adapter is good so what you need is a voltage checking going inside. you need a digital tester then make a voltage checking at the lcd control board if the dc supply goes through or not present. you can check also a bulged capacitor or burnt parts at the lcd control board.

I have a gateway desktop monitor with the model number FPD 1960 TFT LCD COLOR MONITOR. The power does not come on after you switch on. When I opened and checked I discovered that power does not go into...

So you can see at least two bad caps, then you need to replace them, there should be a set of caps for the 5v power supply for the logic circuits and the set of caps for the16~18 vdc power supply for the backlights inverter circuits.

Make sure to use low ESR type caps.

My monitor is unresponsive. Does not power on anymore. Does anyone have any troubleshooting ideas?

If your monitor uses a power supply (the brick that plugs into the wall, and then a smaller cord plugs into the monitor), then it's more likely the power supply that's gone out than the monitor itself.

Find someone with a multimeter to check the output voltage on the power supply. There will be a label on the power supply that says what the DC voltage (VDC) is supposed to be. If the meter shows no voltage when the power supply is plugged into the wall, then you just need a new power supply.

Do not try using another power supply as a substitute unless it is a specific match to your monitor. They vary widely by output voltage, etc. and using the wrong one could fry your monitor.

Hope that's helpful.

Samsung syncmaster 215tw monitor flickering

The capacitors BigTech referred to are C110 & C111, 820uf-25V Electrolytic, on the power supply board.

With minor soldering skills, you can replace them with Radio Shack in-store capacitors, Stock # 272-1032, 1000uf-50V Radial Lead Electrolytics for $1.59 each. Works great!

Four bucks and little bit of time saves the monitor.

Samsung 153V LCD Monitor Power Supply Repair Tips

Troubleshooting Samsung 153V LCD power supply is just like troubleshooting those CRT type. This monitor came in with no power symptom. If you are first time repairing this type of power supply, I recommend you to first remove the switch mode power transformer. Then test every single component in the primary section, before you continue to check the secondary section.

You have to be good in testing basic electronic components in order to detect the fault. You can always browse through my website just in case you do not know how to test basic electronic components. If you do not know the right way to check, you might miss out a bad component and this will lead you not able to solve the problem. After carefully checking all the components in the power supply section, I found the filter capacitor do not have any reading using digital capacitance meter (open) , the two round type fuse also open circuit, 1N4744 15 Volt zener diode short circuit and lastly the power IC TOP247F blown!.

Testing the SMPS (switch mode power supply) primary winding with a **** smith fly-back tester, shows green bar which indicates good winding. What we left here were the secondary diode and filter capacitor. Upon checking them with analog meter and ESR meter, found all of them to be good condition. Other area like main board and inverter board also looks okay (Power failure rarely affect these two circuit). Now we have confirmed that only five components found to be faulty.

One by one the components were replaced (except one fuse) and just before you switch on the power supply, make sure you connect a 100 watt light bulb across the live ac line. Once it is done you can then proceed to switch on the LCD monitor to look at the brightness of the bulb.

If it very bright, this suggests that there are still short circuit somewhere in the power section. If it dim or totally goes off, you can now place your red probe to the secondary side to check if any dc present at their respective line. If there are DC voltages present at the output, you can switch off the power, discharge the filter capacitor (for safety purposes), remove the light bulb and connect back the new fuse to its original location.

You are now hundred percent sure that the LCD power supply won
