Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W5. Will not turn on.

I have a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W5. It has given me a very good reliable service for many years. Yesterday, despite fully charged Sony Ni-MH batteries, I found I could not switch on the camera. This has never happened before. Can you please help.

Mine did the same thing to me this weekend.  It wouldn't turn on.  I charged the battery and it still won't turn on. I have had it for maybe 3 months.

I have the same camera, bought in 2006, doing the same thing, with new batteries would turn on and immediately turn off. I had had experience with electronic devices that had overloaded capacitors.
So, I took the back off, took the screws out that held the main parts in the case so I could see the two leads on the capacitor.
Using a WELL insulated screwdriver help with WELL insulated pliers, shorted the two leads. The resulting bang scared my wife and the dog! I jumped these leads several times, each time getting a much smaller discharge until there were no more. Iput it back together and installed new bats. It was the same as before. I switched the bats, Put them in the WRONG way, help down the "on" button for 30 seconds. Put the batteries in the right way, and NADA, nothing. kNOWING HOW CAPACITORS WORK, I removed the bats and let the camera sit (no batteries in it) overnight. After lunch the next day I put the batteries in AND it worked just like new! To make sure I took a 45 minute video (VGA). I had a DSC-W3 before that had acted the same way, repairs were done the same way, and then sold the camera, Last time I checked it was still working after 4 years.

Sony DSC-W5 camera and the LCD screen is blank (white)

Remove the Battery pack from the Camera then press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.

Next, reinsert the Battery pack in the Camera and try to turn it ON. Make sure that the Battery pack is fully charged. If the LCD remains white then the LCD screen needs to be serviced or replaced.

Cannot power on to take photos

I found that one has to use their batteries of at least 2100mAh and NI-MH. I recharged my batteries removed the new ordinary alkaline batteries I had put in and BINGO IT WORKED. Just to prove the point I put in another set of Alkaline batteries No good. It must be that NI-MH Batteries rated at 2100mAH have more power (or one can draw more currentat start up) a battery guru could maybe veryify my conclusions. Anyhow try NI-MH batteries and see how you go. Best of luck fredlich

Use of batteries in digital camera

you can change from nickel metal hylide to lithium ion batteries but you need a lithium charger. DO NOT SUBSTITUTE chargers! I've had my sony mavica for 7 years I have not needed to change the flashtube. the flashtube is a xenon based flashtube.

Power shuts when in camera mode

The user manual would not be of much help. Please try to clean the battery contacts inside the camera. Please use the new fully charged NI-MH accu batteries preferably 2500 maH capacity. If this measures do not provide a cure please contact the nearest Authorized Sony Service. If you need more info please advice.

Sony DSC-P93 battery replacement question

NiMH batteries. You can use the larger mAh AA. It has more capacity and should give you longer service before needing recharge. The battery manufacturers recommend that you do not mix the batteries. i.e. don't use mAh 2100 and mAh 2500 as one set, use all 2100 or all 2500 as one set.
