Can't connect to internet with router and wireless usb adapter

I have a AirPlus G router D-link 802.11g/2.4Ghz wireless which works well when my computer has built-in wireless connection. But now I have a desktop pc that doesn't have built-in wireless so I bought a wireless usb adapter. The usb adapter was installed successfully but I can't connect to the internet. What else should I do to get connection? Thanks.

Hi, Vipin! The usb adapter manual says that it's compatible with 802.11 g/b devices. Does that mean it works in G mode?

Hi,,
Did you check whether the USG adapter can work in "G" mode, read the manual of the usb adapter and check whether it can operate in "G" mode since your router is a wirelss "G" model the devices which detectes signals should also work in :g" mode, And most of the inbuilt adaters are viable with a/b/g/N type routers, so please check the manual and let me know
Thanks,

    Hi Melinda,

If it says that it it G compatible you wont have any issues connecting to the wireless network, are you getting any error message while trying to connect??? are you able to go online with wired connection?? ie, with ethernet cable plugged in, If you need assistance , please find in my Gtalk, my ID: [email protected], i will be available after 7:30 CST, probably we can discuss on the isssue,

    Thanks

1. Login to router first and verify that the router with the rj45 cable.
2. Go to the DOS window and then type "cmd" then type at the prompt "ipconfig /all". this will show the network connections but look at the wireless connect and the ip and MAC address.
3. Disconnect from the RJ45 ( Ethernet cord) then reboot the PC or laptop.
4. check laptop for IP address from router.
5. At the dos prompt do a ping >> www.yahoo.com
example: ping www.yahoo.com

Wi-fi card on Win98SE laptop not allowing internet to connect.

I really believe this is some kind of driver error. You must first remove the existing driver and then install the following driver.
http://download.cnet.com/D-Link-AirPlus-Xtreme-G-DWL-G650-Adapter/3000-2112_4-67890.html
If that doesn't work we're gonna have to try messing with the wireless router settings.

Moving desktop across room where there is no cable connection.

you can buy a cheap USB wifi adapter and connect the desktop wirelessly just like your laptop, this should do the trick.
or you can buy an access point to extend the range of the wireless network, you should not be moving the router itself this way.

Di 524 through speedstream 5200: wireless connects but no browse

try re-installing the driver for your USB adapter or create a new wireless network name.

You could also try to download the latest driver for your USB adapter. uninstall the old driver before installing the latest driver for your USB adapter.

D-Link DWL-G510 Connected but no packets

Hi,
According to the user guide for your motorola broadband modem it doesnot support wirless capability , ie it can only hook your computers to the interenet using the wire. refer the following link

http://broadband.motorola.com/consumers/products/SB5101/downloads/SB5101_UG_EN.pdf

What is required , is additional pair of hardware ie.
1. Wireless Router(eg linksys or netgear)
or
2.Router/broadband modem(given by the ISP)

Your connection would then be configured through the wireless router , that would give you wireless capability.

Refer to the following link , it gives you the a step by step guide to setting up the wireless connection .

Best of luck .....

Thanks
