1. Check that the sprocket on the bar tip actually turnas and is free from obstruction.
2. Check chain tension is not too tight.
3. Check that you have taken the chain brake off. (pull the front hand guard back until it clicks)
4. If you have checked all the above, check the clutch.

The chain starts to spin but slows to a stop and revs as if it's in neutral.

You haven't stated the make and model, so its hard to answer your question precisely. Check the drive gear off the motor that's driving the chain to make sure nothing had come loose or worn meaning its spinning but slipping on the drive.

Chain will spin when I put clutch and bar back together start it up chain spins then stops and clutch gets red hot?

or a to thick chain or the chain was not cleaned after use before a long time The chain may be stiff with tree resin, you have the chain anyway can rotate by hand when the machine is not on the safety brake

Timing chain

Usually a chain doesn't just break. Some other event happened causing the chain to snap. If it's just spinning over and not starting I would do a compression check. I'd be willing to bet that there is low or no compression. Probably a bent valve. Not enough to make it noisy but enough to not have any compression. Once a chain breaks it would be in your best interest to have the whole motor checked out. if you just try to put a band-aid on it you will probably be spending more in the long run due to unforseen issues that haven't been explored.

probably the starter's engaging gear, or starter clutch, could also be a bad battery or solenoid.

I have a 435 husquvarna chain saw it is hard to start plus it idles high and it smokes and the chain keeps spinning when i let off the trigger

if it is hard to start and smokes sounds like the fuel is to old and the oil to gas mixture is wrong start off with some fresh fuel gas is only good for 30days in small engines

Trying to assemble chain back onto bar and wheel but when I start saw the chain comes off. I feel like it is tight enough but without being too tight.

loosen clamp, back off adjustment fully, spin chain by hand[carefully] to make sure its running on bar and sprocket,,adjust tension up ,while rechecking chain alignment, then lift chain by hand at the top of the bar[the bar will also move up slightly] and adjust tension up till clearance between chain and bar is about 1/2 inch.dont let go the chain, while you lock up the clamps.then spin chain to recheck its on the sprocket properly.then try cutting wood. This procedure can apply to most chainsaws

Engine starts blade won't spin

The large black plastic bar sticking up is a kick back safety device. Pull it back toward the handle to make sure it has not been engaged. If it is engaged the chain will not move. If that is not the problem then the chain clutch is defective. I am assuming the chain is not too tight.

Chain spins when not cutting

Sounds like a clutch issue but if the chain is spinning once you start the unit you'll need to do some adjusting to your carb.

Chain wont turn when running

Check the tensioner screw, it could be too tight. Loosen the slack and the chain should move. And of course do this while its off.
