SOURCE: Screen goes blank

Hello..

Now let's discuss what we should do when the laptop seems to be booting up without problems, the hard drive spins appropriately, and we even hear the welcome sound of the operating system, but we have no display on the LCD panel.
The easiest and most foolproof method for testing your LCD screen is to hook up the laptop to an external monitor. If the video output on the external monitor looks fine, this means that the problem is with the video connector, with your LCD panel itself, or with the circuitry that turns on the LCD.
What do we do? It all starts with disassembling the notebook. Find the video connector on the system board (if the video is integrated on the motherboard) or on the video card that is attached to the motherboard. Try re-connecting the cables. You may as well locate the display connector on the back of the end LCD panel. Re-seat that one too. This way you can be sure that the problem is not related to connections.
image002.jpgEvery now and then the switch located on the system board that turns the backlight of the LCD on and off can become stuck. If this is the problem then your LCD never powers on. There's a little switch that detects whether the screen of your notebook is open or closed. That's the one we're talking about. Try to push it down and hope it gets unstuck.
Disassembling the laptop to unstick this switch is an option, but sometimes you can get away with not taking it apart. Try lightly hitting that plastic switch. But wait, this isn't the only possible cause, unfortunately. Re-seat the other connectors and cables that are present around the LCD panel and the video on board (including the inverter).
All of the aforementioned can usually be fixed, but let's not forget about the screen itself. Sometimes the screen can become defective. Here we'll enumerate a few scenarios where the screen has gone bad and must be replaced: lots of vertical lines or bands appearing on the screen; half of the screen works fine but the other half stays either black (blank) or really white; the output on the screen looks blurred and changes to different patterns; and so forth. These are almost always signs of a defective LCD panel.
However, if the output on the screen is nothing but garbage, such as incorrectly placed special characters, shadows around the characters, unknown randomly placed marks of different colors, distorted or ugly-looking geometric patterns, or tiny little white dots all over the screen, then these are almost always due to the system board or the connection between the LCD panel and the video card. Re-seat the connectors.
All in all, these are some of the most common hardware failures. Nevertheless, before we finish this part, let's name some of the others that will be covered in the second segment of this guide, along with the promised system instability troubleshooting strategies. These include clicking noises coming from the HDD, which is the well-known symptom of a dying HDD. Thus, back up your important data as soon as possible and order a replacement. Overheating is also discussed thoroughly.

Hope it may helpful for you

Screen goes blank

This is most probaby because of a loose display cable connection .As the cable runs through the hinge slot to the mainboard of the laptop, open the laptop full and try pressing carefully on the left side of the laptop near the hinges area. this should give you the display back.

Screen

There is a switch that controls the on/off of display when the lid is opened or closed. Sometimes it's located near the hinges. Perhaps it's been damaged, loose, dirty, etc. Unplug, remove battery, plug in, reboot.

Dell 1501 laptop screen has gone almost blank. When I open the laptop I momentarily get to see the screen as it should be. I have tried the 'fn' & 'up arrow' keys without success. Any...

This sounds like a loose wire on the backlight on the monitor.
If it were my computer, I would disassemble the screen and check the connections. You can find directions on Dell's site by going to support.dell.com and entering your service tag to get the downloads. You'll find the service manual there.

I dropped my laptop, Vaio VGN-NR185E, and the screen is turning blue with the white colors, so if there's a blank page it's blue instead of white, I believe it's the inverter or maybe a loose wire, What do...

If the unit was dropped, it could be that a wire /cable came loose, but it most likely is the LCD screen. Was the unit dropped on one edge of the unit or did it land flat?

on edge: probably the LCD screen
flat: loose cable or inverter

Best guess....without seeing unit.

When i turn on my DS the top screen is blank then it turns white and stays like that, i don;t know what's wrong

If your booting to a GBA game, there us a setting in the machine BIOS to tells it to use the top or bottom screen. You can access it by taking out the games and booting the unit.

If your booting a DS game, it should display on both. If not, it is possible a wire has come loose on the display (or the screen went bad).

You can try and check for the wire yourself or take it to a repair shop. If you bought it recently call Nintendo.

My Gateway laptops display does not work

It sounds like a loose wire. If you are out of waurantee open it up and see if there is a wire that has come loose. Only it you feel comfortable, doing this. First check the connectors on the side and make sure the vga/dvi, is not loose. If you are going to end up paying a tech to fix it, then it would be worth your while to open it up and give it a shot. Let me know if you want to do that, and we can go through what's needed. good luck, by the way is this XP or Vista? and if you go into the properties, settings, advanced, desktop, is the desktop set to stretch or center or tile?

I have the same problem. It happened to me about half a year ago and reinstalling the OS solved it. So it's by no chance a hardware problem. I have a Acer TravelMate 6291. It must be some kind of a software problem, but don't know which one :-(

Laptop HP Compaq nx9420 Screen goes Blank

From the Symptom you described, it seems like the thin video cable's connector is loose and is barely connected to the video adapter on the motherboard. You won't be able to tell until you remove the Keyboard and/or the Palmrest to check it. Also, there is a slim possibility that the Laptop has knocked something loose and is going into sleep mode. Normally, a Laptop user can configure it to go into Sleep mode or 'Hibernate'. These settings can be found in the Control Panel under 'Power Settings'. http://www.Computer-Repair-Today.com
