There is a spring inside the button on bottom. If it is missing broken or not seated properly the line will feed continuously.
First try tapping the bottom to set the button. Then inspect the line feed assembly.
good luck

SOURCE: I am trying to spool

Yes, it does feed automatically.
Please make sure the trimming line spooled in your spool regularly.

If above does not work, please go to service center to change a lever inside spool housing.

SOURCE: automatic line feed melts together -will not feed- second trimmer to do this

The talcum powder fix that I gave for line feed problems works for this problem too. The powder lubricates the line, eliminating the friction that melts the line. They are essentially just two parts of the same problem.

SOURCE: Line gets tangled in gear under feed spool

Problem solved. We noticed something was broken off a small part inside the spool holder. My husband took it to the local hardware store, and one of the employees gave him the part from a trimmer that had been returned.

SOURCE: On GH1000 Type 4 Line will not feed out, the spool

  • The first two things I think of when I hear this is that either the wrong cord or size of cord was used. The other thing is that perhaps the cord loosened up in the spool and is jammed up. I will list the style and size or cord below and the steps to rewind the spool again. Make sure of the size and rewind the spool and see if that helps. I suspect it will.

  1. When you rewind your spool you want to use .080 diameter round line only.
  2. Wind the line in the outside of the spool first going with the arrows.
  3. First insert the line into the little slot about 1/4" and then.
  4. Now fill the outside of the spool until the line reaches the notches making sure not to over fill or it will jam up.
  5. When you have reached the notch on the outside fill spot then stick the end of the line in the notch on the rim of the spool.
  6. Now take a separate piece of line and repeat on the inside of the spool.
  • On a side note I would like to add that this same thing with this trimmer has been a defect that has happened to hundreds of people, Lots of complaints. Some folks call this dangerous because of the spool. If you have everything as I stated above then it is going to be a defective item and you will want to contact Black and Decker to discuss an exchange or a refund. It's nothing you have done. It is not a well put together item.

  • Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.

Regards, Tony

I bought this strimmer in May 2015. Works well but the auto line feed doesn't seem to function.

most auto line feeds work off the button in the middle of the trimmer head
you tap the head on the ground while it is spinning and it releases just enough line to continue working
if it is not now doing that then it is more than probable that you have to install new line

I have the tb70ss and I have continuously had issues with the string feeding out so quickly it cannot be clipped by the blade. I have followed the instructions on the direction to wind the string and I am...

It sounds like you are winding the line in the wrong direction. You should wind the line in the opposite direction that the head spins during operation.

Good Luck!

My weedeater with auto line feed will not stop feeding the line when in use.

Did you ever get an answer to this problem? I'd like to know because I have the same problem with my cordless 14" Black N Decker Gass Hog. I rethread it, but the line continually feeds and is out in about 2 minutes.

Echo trimmer with bump feed is not feeding

Sadly, they do wear out..... but sometimes they're just stuck. The line can refuse to feed if the line is caught on itself in the spool winding, or if the head is bad. Try this: remove the spool and clean it pretty good. Check that the line isn't caught on itself in the spool. Sometimes it just locks itself in between wraps, and you have to pull it out of the groove to get it to continue to feed. Give the inside of the spool a liberal dose of graphite powder. Put the spool back on with line. Bump it against the ground as much as you feel necessary to further distribute the graphite. Now, push the spool in as if to feed line, and pull on the line. It should feed a bit and stop. If it does, you're good to go. If not, replace the spool.
Best regards. Hope this was helpful to you, --W/D-- Please feel free to rate this solution! Thanx!

How to feed line into a black and decker trimer/edger model st6000 electric?

The ST6000 uses centrifugal force. Once you mount the new spool of string and thread it out of the feeder and into the housing below, plug it in, give it power and hold the line feed button down, feeding the line. Within seconds, the line will feed out through the head and you'll be in business.
