Question about HP PhotoSmart C3140 All-In-One InkJet Printer

Incompatibility issues with Windows 7

I had to restore my computer to factory settings after a particularly nasty virus infected everything, and upon reinstalling everything, my Photosmart c3100 (C3140 All-in-One) refuses to install. It's incompatible with Windows 7, but I used to have it installed without any issues whatsoever.

SOURCE: HP Photosmart C3100 print problems

Hi,

Hope this helps; Try Printer Self Test feature by placing a paper on tray or bypass. Start from off position press Enter button or equivalent and hold down for 3 seconds and press the power button on. Do not release yet the Enter button until it initializes for self test printing. We'll see if it prints correctly or the colors will be printed completely. Proceed to uninstall everything or reinstalling if found print test is correct.

Best regards,

Recommendation:
Make sure that java, direct X, and .NET components are up to date. Many installers not require these.

If the install just can't see the printer, I would completely uninstall any components you were able to get installed (if any), remove the device entirely from your system, download a Vista version of the driver from HP if possible, and run the setup.exe...If your using a system driver you'll have to hook the printer up first, otherwise when it asks you to attach the printer then hook it up in a different USB port.

If all else fails install the drive manually through the control panel using Add Harware and then browse for the INF file.

Reasons

  1. Downloading the driver gets you the newest version available and may resolve a bug.
  2. Changing the USB port will keep Windows from using the pre-configured settings set up in previuos installs.
  3. Installing manually will add the printer to the device library, even if you have to reinstall it a second time to get the USB configuration right

SOURCE: Windows keeps re-installing HP Photosmart C4280

I have a customer with Windows XP and the same issue. Told him to unplug the printer cable when starting the computer and/or restarting it. Wait until all auto-start programs have loaded, including and specifically the HP Monitoring Utility program. Once Windows is up and he's at the desktop, THEN plug the printer cable into the computer. He's been doing that for several days now with no duplicate printers installed.

My compaq presario cq56 will not restore itself to factory default settings

U have a nasty bug in there. Your best bet is using another computer download the latest malwarebytes program onto a usb stick. Using the hiren disk boot up to the fake desktop, navigate to the usb stick via explorer and run the program and get the latest updates for it at same time. Then run it and clean out the crud that is in the machine causing havoc. When you reboot go back into the program and permanently remove the deleted items that are in the quarantine area.

I want to reset my compaq presario cq60-215dx notebook pc

Hi

More information needed.

What do you mean by "reset"?

If you mean you want to restore it to a previous setting before, for example, a virus infection:

start > all programs > accessories > system tools > system restore > restore my computer to an earlier time > select date and event on calendar and event schedule > restore.

If you mean restore your computer to factory default settings:

When the computer is booting, you will see, at the bottom of the screen, an F (function) key that takes you into the Recovery mode.

Recovery will wipe everything else off except Windows and the programs and drivers that the computer originally came with.

Hope this helps.

I always have computer set to a password need upon putting it on. when I turned it on now it bypasses the input of password what do I do?

Scan it for viruses then set everything to no password. Restart the machine and then set it to require passwords and input new passwords while you are not connected to the internet. There are a couple of particularly nasty viruses out there that corrupt the password feature and tools of the Windows Operating system which cause machines to do this. You also want to go through the settings and make sure you have Remote access set to Manual in Services so it can't be started over a network. Reboot the system after making the setting changes to your system and services before trying to get back on the internet.

How to reformat my Acer Aspire 1480z. My laptop was infected by a virus

If it is a bad virus that won't let you do anything on the computer, follow the instructions on this link. If you can install programs on your computer, follow only steps 7 and 8 from the above link.

To do a clean Windows install, put in the Windows CD and press any key to boot from CD on start up then follow the prompts to install Windows. Right before choosing where to install it, opt to format the drive so that you have a clean install.

Another option is to use the restoration disc that came with your laptop and restore the computer to the factory settings. To do this, put the CD in and on the boot up screen press the F key showed on the bottom of the screen for System Restore.

My asus 1001ha is infected with viruses & wont do anything how do i restore to factory settings?

If it is a bad virus that won't let you do anything on the computer, follow the instructions on this link. If you can install programs on your computer, follow only steps 7 and 8 from the above link.

If you still want to restore it to factory settings, you will need the restoration CD/DVD that came with the laptop, put it in the drive and boot from it to start the restoration to factory settings. If you don't have the restoration disc, you will need a Windows installation disc to install a clean copy of Windows and wipe the HDD. Same process, put disc in and boot from it then follow the instructions for Windows installation (you will need the drivers disc though).

My pc is infected, and I need to reboot it to its factory settings.

Restore your Laptop to Factory Settings is an EASY utility BUILT into Windows -- it CLEANS EVERYTHING...computer and hardware. But, it is HANDY. jQuery(document).ready(function(){ jQuery('.intro .thumbnail a:first').attr('href','http://i.ehow.com/images/a06/6v/d1/reboot-laptop-back-factory-settings-800X800.jpg'); }); Rebooting your laptop back to its factory settings restores your computer and its hardware to its original settings when it was purchased. This is helpful when troubleshooting major hardware and system performance issues. It can also be used to fix virus related issues. Restoring your computer to its factory settings is similar to performing a clean install of your operating system. Windows uses a utility program called System Restore that allows you to restore your computers settings to a specific date.
jQuery('.intro .thumbnail').each(function(i,e){ jQuery(e).find('img').one('error',function(){ jQuery(e).remove(); }); }); Difficulty: Easy Instructions
  1. Step 1 Turn on your computer, and then click on the "Start" menu icon in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen. Select "All Programs," and then click on the "Accessories" drop-down menu.
  2. Step 2 Scroll down to "System Tools," and then select the "System Restore" program and wait for it to open.
  3. Step 3 Select the "Restore My Computer to an Earlier Time" option, and then click on the "Next" button to continue. A window with a calendar will appear.
  4. Step 4 Click on the back arrow in the calendar's window. Click on the back-arrow until you have reached the date you either purchased or installed Windows on your Notebook. Select the appropriate date, and then click on the "Next" button to continue. Your computer will automatically restart.

Tough infection keeps returning

Hello.

If the malware is reinfecting your system, you really only have 3 choices: System Restore, Factory Restore or reinstall.

For System Restore, boot your system to Safe Mode (press F8 repeatedly). Go to System Restore and choose a date when your system worked OK. Note: with System Restore, everything, including your documents and other files you saved on the hard drive, will roll back to that date.

Accessing Factory Restore (restores to the factory settings and will wipe out anything that you have installed or saved on your PC), is dependent on your hardware manufacturer. Boot your system and press F10, F11, Alt+F10, or Ctrl+F11 to access Factory Restore. Follow the prompts.

If still not resolved, you'll probably need to reinstall your operating system.

Hope this helps.

System restore utility not getting activated by known methods

I'm a certified computer tech and have been doing this for years. system restore often causes more problems than it fixes. I recently ran into this issue on a friends computer. upon investigating his computer was infected with a nasty virus that infected all of his restore points. go to housecall.antiviurs.com or another security website and run a free online virus scan. check that first, if that isn't the problem try manually going into system restore and running it (start > all programs> Accessories > System Tools > system restore). it may be able to be fixed with the system restore. if not you may want to consider either taking it to a technician or backing up your files and reloading the comptuer.
