SOURCE: Tv will not turn on

Hi,
This could probably means that the power relay is working, though there could be bad contacts.

Since the fuse doesn't blow, now you need to check for:

Other blown fuses - occasionally there are more than one in a TV.

Replace with one of exactly the same ratings.

Open fusable resistors. These sometimes blow at the same time or in place of the fuses. They are usually low values like 2 ohms and are in big rectangular ceramic power resistor cases or smaller blue or gray colored cylindrical power resistors. They are supposed to protect expensive parts like the HOT but often blow at the same time.

If any of these are bad, they will need to be replaced with flameproof resistors of the same ratings (though you can substitute an ordinary resistor for testing purposes). Before applying power, check: Rectifier diodes, horizontal output transistor, regulator pass or chopper transistor (if present), and main filter capacitor for shorts.

An initial test with an ohmmeter can be done while in-circuit. The resistance across each diode and the collector to emitter of the transistors should be relatively high - a few hundred ohms at lest - in at least one direction (in-circuit). If there is a question, unsolder one side of each diode and check - should be in the Megaohms or higher in one direction. Removed from the circuit, the collector-emitter resistance should be very high in one direction at least. Depending on the type, the base-emitter resistance may be high in one direction or around 50 ohms. If any reading on a semiconductor device is under 10 ohms - then the device most likely bad. Assuming that you do not have a schematic, you should be able to locate the rectifiers near where the line cord is connected and trace the circuit. The transistors will be either in a TO3 large metal can or a TOP3 plastic package - on heat sinks. The filter capacitor should eventually measure high in one direction (it will take a while to charge from your ohmmeter). It could still be failing at full voltage, however.

If you find one bad part, still check everything else as more than one part may fail and just replacing one may cause it to fail again.

Assuming everything here checks out, clip a voltmeter set on its 500 V scale or higher across the horizontal output transistor and turn the power on. Warning - never measure this point if the horizontal deflection is operating. it is ok now since the set is dead. If the voltage here is 100-150, then there is a problem in the drive to the horizontal output circuit. If it is low or 0, then there are still problems in the power supply or with the winding on the flyback transformer.

Other possible problems: bad hybrid voltage regulator, bad startup circuit, bad standby power supply (dried up filter capacitor, etc.) bad relay contacts as mentioned above. However, these probably would not have blown the fuse in the first place so are less likely.
Good luck...

SOURCE: my samsung tv will not turn on

sounds like your power supply is bad, common issue with samsung. If you remove cover and look at the capacitors on the power supply, you may find 1 or more caps that are rounded on top instead of being flat the like the others. These need to be replaced.

If theres absolutely no power and no lights on, it sounds like the fuse inside the t.v.. It is pretty easy to change. You have to take out the screws on the back of the t.v. and take the back cover off. Look for a 3/4" glass tube fuse and see if the tiny wire in it is broken. Pop it out and bring it to radio shack and get a new one. Put that one in and try it, Make sure the t.v. has been unplugged for at least 2 hours before opening it so the capacitors have time to drain. They will hold power and could shock you if your not careful. Also, dont use anything metal to take the fuse out.

SOURCE: Whenever i plug my sony

Hi,

This is an indication of out-of-regulation in the power supply section. The very common caused of this fault is the leaky electrolytic capacitor in that section. It will drop the supply from normal voltage and will disable the unit.It needs a little warm-up to make itself stable but the symptom will get worst, times will come that it will not power up at all. Sometimes it has a bulged/dome at the top but not all, it is better that you have a capacitor checker/tester to determine its condition. Your unit will back to normal again if the leaky capacitor is isolated.

If you don't have necessary tools and test instruments, and can't do the job yourself, I would advice you to look for a professional to troubleshoot the problem. Don't attempt to work in the power supply if you don't know the safety precaution of handling it, there some stored electricity enough to hurt you with a little mistake only.

Also check if your unit is under warranty /extended warranty, avail it because the manufacturer of your unit will fix it for free. Don't open the back panel, this will void the warranty.

Hope I helped you.

Have a nice day!

Thanks for using Fixya.

I have a Sony Bravia LCD tv an it won't turn on at all the standby light is not even there I've tried turning on an off and leaving unplugged for an hour still nothing.? Help,

You either have a problem with your power supply board or main board. I would start with having the power supply fuse checked as well as the power supply board!

Coby 40" Wont turn on

I'd add something to this. We had the same issue with a 40" coby. We'd declared it dead and after a few days turned it on again to show the problem before trashing it. The TV came on. We've since learned that there seems to be a HDMI handshake issue related to this tv. If you turn it off with HDMI devices still sending a signal, it will periodically return to this point, and take a day before it will turn back on (I guess until the caps are fully drained.) If you turn the TV off first and then devices however, this never seems to happen. Dunno if this is the same for others, but I'm curious

YES SIREEE, THE BULDGING CAPACITORS ARE MOST LIKELY YOUR PROBLEM. DO YOU KNOW HOW TO CHANGE THEM OUT??? IF YOU DO, I WOULD SUGGEST REPLACING THEM WITH NICHICON OR PANASONIC CAPACITORS.

1 have a 6 year-old Mitsubishi model WS-48511 series 1080 rear projection TV that now won't turn on. A few days ago we shut the TV off, and now when i plug it in the blinking green power light...

This is called the blinking green light of death-----only one of two things can cause this problem.

First: remove front speaker grill (IT PULLS OFF) AND remove inspection plate behind it; look for the two bundles of wires coming down and to the right from the front keyboard of the set.

Unplug both plugs you find (different and marked so you cannot mix them up-----the idea is to take the front keyboard out of circuit-----set will still function with remote as receiver is behind front screen)

Try (after 70 seconds) to turn on with remote

If it comes on---defective reset button on front keyboard----use set only with remote or remove and remove actual reset switch---it is located behind and part of frame for screen----entire front screen would have to be removed to get at it.

Second: if disconnection of the front keyboard does not help, the DM unit is bad.

As you look from back of set it is large metal box at extreme left side.

The blinking light is the unit trying to "Boot" up-----these have a problem where caps and a few other parts in that unit fail-----kits on the net are available----Mitsubishi no longer sells or services these units but PTS Electronics does repair them.

Let me know if you have questions and try disconnection of the front keyboard FIRST.

Hi, I have a problem with my SONY Trinitron WEGA KV-32HQ100 TV. - the TV sometimes work some times NOT. LED indicator is always green. When TV works it woks for hours, but if it does not want to works it...

Sir your unit has a loosed or cold solder, remove the back cover of your tv then observe your PCB solder part it is much better if you use a magnifying glass to identify the cold solder, but unplug the unit when removing the back cover if you see this cold solder resolder it but be sure not to connect separated pins, if accidentally connected or solder it may caused much damage to your unit, or you can contact a service technician to do it for you and save you from stress good day and best regards.

Hi,

Try unplugging the TV from the power point and leave unplugged for 5 min.
Or the batteries in the remote may be flat, try replacing the batteries.
If this doesn't work the TV may have a fault.

I hope this helps

Tries tv unplug, replug it back like about an hour later. Most of the times tv will resetting itself back to the factory setting and will work again. If still have the same problems, tries pushes the power button on/off a couple times for trying to fire up the tv Tuner signal board, these off/on tries work with many LCD/Plasma HD tvs.But this kind of problems, eventually u have to change the tv Tuner signal board sooner or later.Because the tv Tuner signal board it is dying, and this solution is just a temp fixed for the delaying it for awhile.
