Question about Garden
I have a toro lx 420. It will not hold a charge. I bought a new battery, no luck. I tested the battery and it is fine but it is getting power at all. P.S. the tractor was running and I lowered the deck when it died ( mower was not engaged, I just lowered the deck)and it died, now gauges don't work and it is as if there was no battery at all. I can not see where the deck may have pinched a wire. All wires seem to be in place and not even close to the deck system.
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

Have someone with an amp. meter check across the battery terminals with the engine revved to max speed. It should read 13.5 or more volts. If it is reading that much or more then you should suspect a bad battery. If you had a bad charging coil you would not much on the amp. meter. donnyb60

There is a safety switch on the diferential that lets the tractor know that your not backing up that is likely defective, unplug it until you can get one in to replace it and you should be good to go.It's on th right side mid housing on the hyrostatic unit[rear diff].

SOURCE: I have an LX178 tractor
The clutch is engaging, but it cannot turn the pulley, so the engine bogs down....
No, I don't think it is a clutch problem... it sounds more like you have a bering out on one of the mower deck blades, or the belt has jumped off and is pinched... at any rate the belt is not able to turn so it bogs the engine down...
To find the problem, you will probably need to remove the mower deck, then take the cover off over the belt and then check out all of the blade and idler pulleys to make sure that they all turn easily...you will find one that is frozen up....
BTW... you should be able to spin the belt...with the engine off....grab the belt and check it out....
