Canon MultiPASS F80 All-In-One InkJet Printer Logo
Posted on Aug 10, 2007

F-80 went to print and the printhead will not move.

Belt is tight and can move printhead by hand with no obstruction but when I press RESUME the printer goes through the motions but when it is time for the printhead to move there is a quick clicking sound like the belt is slipping on the motor spindle. THe printer has been having spells where the printhead would not return to the parked position but I was always able to manually push it into position, unplug the printer and it would fireup and reset the printhead and then everything worked fine until the next time. I like the printer and prefer to fix if possible. Especially since the new printers all have the new non refillable ink tanks.

Print head jam

Check the LCD on your printer control panel or the status monitor on your computer for an error message. If there is an error message, follow the instructions to clear it.

If there is no error message, or if the problem continues:

  1. Open the access door.
  2. Disconnect the power adapter from the back of the printer.
  3. CAUTION: Do not use force on the printhead carriage to move it. Gently move the printhead carriage from side to side to see that it moves freely and there are no obstructions.
  4. Remove any obstructions that may prevent the printhead carriage and ink cartridges from moving to the center position.
  5. Close the access door.
  6. Connect the power adapter to the printer.
  7. Remove the ink cartridges from the printhead.
  8. Verify that the labels on the ink cartridges are intact, and that the cartridges are not damaged.
  9. firmly until you hear it click into position.

Canon pixma mp540 error 5100 . What is error 5100?

dear,
Error 5100 points to a "carriage jam"
The carriage is the assembly that contains the printhead and cartridges.
This error can be difficult to solve because various things can cause it.

Since this is a new printer, maybe there is some packing or packing tape that is obstructing the carriage.
Verify that the carts and printhead are installed properly.

Check the gears as best you can for any obstructions.

If the carriage moves to a center position when you open the cover as if to change cartridges, try a reset to clear the error message :

1. Turn off printer (use button, don't unplug)

2. Hold down Resume button and press Power button.

3. Keep holding down Power button and let Resume button go.

4. Press Resume button 2 times then let BOTH buttons go.

5. Green lights will flash and then stop blinking.

6. When green lights are solid, press the Resume button 4 times.

7. Press the Power button and the printer should turn off, if not, press the Power button once more.

8. Your printer should respond as normal

Sometimes you have to try this a couple of times, if you've never done it before.
If this does not work, unplug, wait 3-4 min, then re-plug in. Enjoy..

Print head will not move at all but i can slide it back and forth by hand. and the alarm light flashes and the srceen reads check printer press resume key

This will either be a problem with the printhead drive motor, the ribbon cable going to the printhead, or even worse...a problem with the circuit boards inside the printer. It will need to go into the shop for repair.
