Hi
I have compaq Presario v2000 laptop all of sudden the speakers (ALTEC LANSING) stopped working if i plugin the headphone I can hear the sound but not with speakers.
Any help will be of gr8 help.

Amit Khurana i tried to tools, computer managament, device man. thing and when i double clicked it to install **** from online it came back saying "the hardware was not installed because the wizard can not find necessary software" did i really mess up and my computer will never have sound again?

Hello,
The first thing that I suspect is that it couldn't locate the right drivers for installation. Still, I'd suggest that you try reinstalling the right drivers for you laptop. There's no harm reinstalling the drivers. Get the drivers for V2000 at this link, but you need to choose which OS are you using: Presario V2000 Audio Drivers. Take note too, that HP recommends that you delete your existing drivers first before installing the new ones.
The method of deleting and reinstalling can be found at Method 4: Delete and reinstall the original sound drivers of this LINK. That link includes the troubleshooting methods for audio/sound problems. You can go through the procedure that applies to you, but I'd still suggest that you do first METHOD 4.
