What does a memory card do

There are two types of "memory cards" related to the Wii. GameCube memory cards are used to store saved games when playing GameCube games in the Wii's compatibility mode. SD cards are used primarily for backing up channels, save games, and WiiWare titles from internal memory. It can also be used for storing images to be viewed in the Photo channel, and for homebrew games (not officially supported).

R4i card not working after upgrade of dsi software is there a way to uninstall upgrade, have reformated system memory but no luck

Hi gw_la_brown,

Once your DSi console has been updated to v1.4.3 firmware it cannot then be downgraded. If you are using a genuine R4i 3DS card (check on the website by the way, they do a pretty good guide on the different types of genuine / fake cards. Also see, they're pretty useful for R4i card info) then you should be able to update the firmware of the R4i card through the "Settings" menu of the R4i. You need to do this on a 1.4.2-or-below DSi console, or a DS Lite though. has an info page and a video to show you how to update a legit R4i card (NOT fakes) - click here to visit the 1.4.3 R4i Update page.

If you're using a fake card (such as the R4i Gold, R4i Ultra etc.) then it's quite likely the card simply isn't supported and you'd need to get a new one. Your best bet is to buy an authentic card and simply buy something decent that's upgradable. DS cards unfortunately don't last forever, and teams eventually stop supporting the cards - but the fake ones are terrible at this to be honest!

I personally shop with dscardworld ( and they're great, but that's because I live in the US. I used to live in Sweden and if you are in Europe then nds-gear ( are just better if you live outside of the US/Canada in my opinion, so pick depending on where you live. Both of those shops are authentic retailers of R4i, Acekard and Supercard by the way (probably others too but those are the ones I've used).

If you're getting a card for a 3DS / DSi console I'd recommend a Supercard DSTWO since it's pretty much just awesome and you can play Gameboy Advance games as well on it. But if you just need a basic card or you're using it on a DS Lite / DS, I'd get an Acekard 2i. Up to you really, I think both of them also stock the genuine R4i's but they seem to be going out of fashion these days.

Hope I've helped, good luck!

How do you use a Gamecube controller on the Wii ?

Assuming the Wii unit is situated vertically, look on the top of the unit. There should be two flaps. Lift them, and you will find plugs for four GameCube controllers and two GameCube memory cards. Plug in the controllers and go.

Bare in mind that only a very small number of Wii games actually use GameCube controllers. The controller slots are primarily for playing GameCube games on the Wii, which the Wii can do right out of the box, provided you have the controllers and memory cards.

How do i format, the memory card .to play on wii

Hi Sir
  • Insert your memory card into your computer's reader if you have one. If not, you can purchase a multi-format USB Memory Card reader from or
  • 2 Open up 'My Computer'. You should see it under the list of available drives.
  • 3 Check its contents first to make sure that you have the right drive.
  • 4 In 'My Computer', right-click on the drive and choose 'Format'.
  • 5 Leave all the options as they are and click on 'Start'. This is a non-reversible process so make sure this is what you truly wanted to do in the first place.
  • 6 Once the process is completed, take the memory card out and insert it into your Digital Camera or any other device. Try to browse to it to make sure it works fine now.

    Game cube

read my previous post to you and try that and let me know if it worked or not sounds like you will have to follow those instructions. maybe it will work. since the gamecube states the card was damaged so a format will be required so the method will wipe it clean and cross your fingers and hope it works.

I put a game cube game in to the wii and it says to insert a memory card into slot A so i put a 128mb memory card into slot A andi turn the wii on and it says no memory card found in slot A WHY?

It might be talking about the GameCube memory card slots, not the SD card slots. There should be a door on the top/left side of the WII. See if it's talking abou that.

    Corrupted memory card help!!!!!!!!!!

I believe you are out of luck. Note that memory cards that are not Nintendo brand, (like Mad Catz) tend to have this problem. Never buy a third party memory card for anything other than backup purposes.

    Memory card format

Try take the card out, then put it back in fully. I've seen this problem before on an Official Nintendo GameCube 251 Block. If there are saves on it, and it still asks you to format the card, just take the card out, and put it back in. You could also try a different slot... Chances are, you just have to take the card out and put it in again for some odd reason. I've seen this fixing that issue. I don't think any of the hardware, i.e. the GameCube or the Memory Card are damaged in any way. Hope this helps.
