By the movie you have an upright freezer. The worst type any body can own. Every time you open the door cold air flows out onto the floor and is replaced by room temp air that is heavy in humidity (water vapour). This freezes into ice and the more you open the door the more ice you will get. Also if the door gaskets(seals) are not perfect you will get the same result.

I left the freezer door closed for a week to see how it is after a week without opening it up and when I opened it, there was ice hanging and frost all in it bad and it builded up thick ice everywhere and the seals around the door are in good condition, I replaced them not to long ago and no air can get inside the freezer no matter what

You have confirmed my point. The gasket although good is not sealing properly and allowing air into the freezer. Once the first lot of air has frozen if the gasket is sealing completely there will be no more air getting in to allow more icing up. A simple test is to close the door rapidly wait maybe a minute and see if it is harder to open the door because of the vacuum created inside by the cooling action condensing the air

  • Abdel Mohammed May 06, 2013

Ya it does suck it up pretty good when I close and try to reopen it, I think there might me some kind of moisture coming out with the air, what do you recommend me doing bud

  • Bill Boyd May 06, 2013

follow the other suggestions . You may strike the problem there and have a fix available.

  • Abdel Mohammed May 07, 2013

Which suggestion are you talking about?? Change the seal around the door?? Or which one ?

  • Abdel Mohammed May 07, 2013

And if your talking about the seal, where do you recommend me going to get one from, thanks again

SOURCE: door liner on chest freezer broke due to ice build-up

if you can't find a replacement, use a piece of flat vinyl siding that goes on houses. You can heat it and bend it as needed, or cut it and screw the pieces to a balsa wood frame for lightweight support. Glue or epoxy probably won't work as the cold temps make them brittle but external caulking may be ok to hold the pieces together. Be sure to sand all edges and corners as the cut plastic can be sharp. If you can disassemble the unit and place the door face down, you can fill the cavity with insulating foam to help stabilize it.

SOURCE: water is building up in the bottom of my side by side freezer and freezing.

sounds like you have a clogged defrost drain tube. removing back panel of freezer will give you acess to drain trough, melt away the ice with a hair dryer, youll find a drain hole under there somwhere, pouring boiling water down the drain will clear it pretty quickly( i use a steam machine purchased from the infomercials works awesome, after you clear it and all water drain down tube wrap a piece of solid copper wirearound the heater( black calrod heater right above the drain trough) and stick it in the whole maybe an inch or so. now everythime the heater comes on to defrost it will prevent the hole from freezing over

SOURCE: Ice build up in my frost free upright freezer

I looked at the BACK at the bottom underneath of my Sears Kenmore frost free upright freezer and what was causing the ice buildup was very simple. At the factory, the assembler looped the little hose too high and when the water went into the hose it could not get out due to being too high in one spot! An ice dam will form, blocking ALL water coming through
and freezing up any more water coming down giving you a HUGE wad of ice that is scary!!! I just removed the screw holding the loop that holds the hose and put a bit of warm water down the little hole on the INSIDE (Behind the grate) to melt the remaining ice in the tube. You need to take out 4 screws and remove the grate to see this. I could not believe that this was the problem! I haven't had any ice build up since. Now don't tear your freezer apart before you try this trying to fix the compressor, thermostat etc. It may be the only thing wrong with it!

SOURCE: Sears Kenmore Deep Freezer settings

It sounds like you have a circulation problem.
Spread out the packages so the freezing air can circulate.

  • Check that the condenser fan is on
  • Check that the coils are not covered with lint and dust especially if they are under the freezer.
  • you may need a tech to put freon in the system.

Drain plug freezes up and ice builds up in freezer then leaks into frig. How do you keep the drain free from building up?

Use a turkey baster filled with very hot water and flush it several times. That should resolve the problem. Also check the door gasket, if it is leaking, excessive frost would be visible causing more water then the system was designed to handle.
Good Luck,

The freezer will not freeze or keep its

Check to condenser coil and make sure it is clean and the fan near it is running when the compressor is on. Check for ice build up in the freezer. If the evaporator coil is iced up the box will run warm. It may be a defrost problem, a dirty condenser, or a refrigerant issue.

is it possible the door has not been closed at some point?
If so they can build up with ice in the evaporator which the defrost system cannot handle....Try a manual defrost.
Depending on where the unit is installed high ambient temperature can drop the internal temp enough to set the alarm off though they will still freeze sufficiently
