Question about Hayward H-series Electronic Gas Pool Heater H400
Hi, I have a Hayward H-Series Pool water heater. Symptoms; - The water is not heating up or heating very little. - There is no error code. - I think the air coming out of the top of the unit is hotter than usual. Any ideas would be appreciated, Thanks
If all burners are working correctly then put a bypass on heater plumbing open it half way to slow down water flow that will give you a higher heat rise

SOURCE: Error code LO
Is the heater installed indoors?? if so you'll need a vent pressure orifice kit.
if not check your water press. (below 18 PSI on filter) Place filter on "recir" if it fires and stays on . it's the pressure.
check to see if all connections a set tight hi-ltd switch wire harness etc.

Actually, the clicking is likely causing the shaking. Inside the manifold of a H100 is a stainless steel diverter plate that send some of the passing water into the heat exchanger and lets the rest past and back to the pool. When it breaks, you will hear a 'clicking' noise at it rattles in the water path. When it breaks, the flow to the heat exchanger is intermittent and you will begin to boil the water, causing the shaking. This situation is dangerous, especially without a pressure relief in the heater or pipe. As long as your water chemistry is sound, Hayward will usually cover this under warranty even if the unit is over a year old. One of your limits is not working or not wired up. An easy way to check the limits - Water pressure switch, Hi limits, air pressure switch all of which have 2 wires going to them. Unplug one item and connect the 2 wires together ( paper clip works fine ) Then retest, if problem does not go away remove paper clip and reconnect wires and move to the next limit. The limits are located in the black plastic header. Always make sure water is flowing through the heater at all times while checking the limits.

Code "CE" stands for communication error and describes a fault between the mother board and the display. I doubt it's the relay causing it though...
