Yes. I did the same thing. It cost me a new timer and circuit board. However, I got my replacement parts from a local used appliance dealer, so I paid " not much".
If you decide to do the same, find your replacement part numbers on "Sears Parts" by your model number, and then type the part numbers into e-bay where you can get good deals.
I do often. Be blessed.

It's not wired right. You're only getting 110 vac to the machine which is why you are seeing some lights but no operation. Make sure when you went to the three prong plug you connected to both 110 vac lugs and common.

I have a FEQ1442es dryer. I need to change it from a 4 pronged plug to a three prong, as that is what outlet my condo has... Is there any special order etc. in which to attatch the connections on the...

The 4-prong plug has red, black, white, and green/yellow wires while the 3-prong plug has red, black, and white wires. The only difference is the green/yellow (ground) wire of the 4-prong plug which is attached to the dryer cabinet. All you have to do is connect the wires of the 3-prong plug in the same way the same wire colors are connected with the 4-prong plug then connect the terminal on the cabinet, where the green/yellow (ground) wire of the 4-prong plug is formerly connected, to the white wire of the 3-prong plug.

Can you take a dryer that has a 4 prog plug and put a 3 prong plug on it?

Yes, you can put a 3-prong plug in place of the 4-prong plug.

How do i know what wire goes where when I replace my 3 prong plug with a 4 prong plug. Kenmore dryer 80 series

You should not do this. Sorry, but you also need a 4 prong outlet
that has the two hots, one neutral and one ground, so if you don't have
the right outlet with these four wires you can't change the plug.

If you did change this you also need to remove the ground strap
that is connected because it has a three prong plug.

There is a connection board where the wires connect on the dryer,

there should be a black wire, red, white green, connected from dryer,
then the cord gets connected to each corresponding wire.

I am real sorry, but if you do this wrong, you will either destroy the dryer
or electrify the dryer and get killed.

Please call a electrician and have him check your supply line and do this, its not worth getting hurt or wrecking the dryer just to save some money.

Replacing eletrical cord to a four prong cord. there are only three connections. there are no color codes to make it easier. How do I replace the cord

Dryers are 220 Volts AC and the outer connections inside the dryer are "hot" or live legs (black or black and red wires) of the circuit, while the center one is typically the neutral (white) wire.

The difference between a 3 prong plug and receptacle and a 4 pronged one is simply that the 4 prong plug and receptacle has a dedicated ground integrated into it, whereas the 3 prong plug is what's commonly referred to as an ungrounded circuit. There is no dedicated ground in a 3 prong plug and receptacle that makes a separate, grounded connection from the dryer to the receptacle to the electrical panel of the house.

Also, please look at either the back of the dryer for a basic wiring diagram, or look inside the access panel where the dryer cord is connected. There should be indications as to what each terminal is for, as I stated, typically the outer connections are the "hot" while the center one is typically the neutral. If you notice a strap running from one of the dryer's connection terminals to the cabinet/frame of the dryer, that is the neutral. The others are the hot terminals, which are the outside ones.

Look for a green grounding screw inside the dryer's electrical connection section. That is where the green wire on the cordset would be connected/terminated.

If you wish, you can get a free Installation Guide for your dryer at the following link to download and/or print out at:

http://www.managemyhome.com/mmh/lis_pdf/INSTL/L0520950.pdf

It will show you the connections for both a 3 and 4 wire cordset.

Hope you find this Very Helpful and best regards!

Installing a four prong plug

best bet would to be to buy a plug that matches your receptical.....this is somthing you do not want to monkey with as if not wired right could turn your dryer into a fire hazzard. white to white green to green black to black and the other wire goes to earth ground for like trailer houses and modular homes.

Frigidaire GLEQ2152ES Dryer Won't Power UP

IF you find that you have only a 3 wire feed for this dryer (and the reason for the 3 prong receptacle)...then you can not properly install a 4 prong dryer cord to it. You now have 2 choices....either rewire (assuming that it is a 3 wire supply) the entire run from the dryer breaker to the outlet location with 4 wire (typically a run of 8/3 with ground having a black, red, white and bare ground)and install a 4 prong dryer receptacle to match the configuration of the new dryers cord.....OR - you can remove the 4 wire cord and replace it with a 3 wire cord....re-using the ground strap - IF it is still in place.

If your dryer came with a 4-prong plug, do not change it. For the very reasons you quoted with the article, you may screw up the 110v accessories required of your appliance (like the clock or digital display). It is best to change the household outlet to a 4-prong type. Just make sure your wiring is correct. You will need a neutral on the 4th leg, which means you will probably have to run new wiring from the outlet to the distribution panel.
