Air fuel mixture problem,,,you need to have the filter pulled out and cleaned. Check fuel system for debris and clean, that includes all the fuel lines and possibly disassemble carb and clean and reassemble.

If you're sure it's not getting spark, the first thing to check would be the "air-gap" setting between the magnets on the flywheel and the ignition coil module . The correct setting basically only requires the use of a regular business card and is around .010"-.014" If there is an air gap present, check it and then you can move on to diagnose the coil module ( they don't go bad very often) if necessary.

SOURCE: can you recomend a cleaner
Any petroleum based cleaner added to the fuel will dilute the gas/oil mixture, thinning it and possibly not allowing enough lubrication during operation; if this is a 2-stroke engine. This is not recommended. Removing the carburetor and cleaning it is usually the best and accepted way to go.
You can do this on a 4-stroke engine and there are many, many choices for fuel system cleaners available for these. You just pour the cleaner into the fuel tank and run it. If this is a 4-stroke, then check for cleaners at your local auto parts store.

SOURCE: I need to purcase Air Filter
A small engine repair (lawn mower) shop will have all those items you need. You could order directly from Sears is you prefer but it is pricey. Here are a few places online.
Your trimmer is a Poulan product and may come up on these sites as such.
Best bet is a lawn mower shop but you can probably find all those parts at Home Depot. I know the spark plug and filter are there. Take the primer bulb with you and compare.

SOURCE: I have a craftsman convertiable,
My work and research show that most problems of this type are fuel system related. There is no "miracle" cure to keep the 32cc engine running. Many different things come into play here. The most common problem is dried out parts inside the carburetor. There is a small gasket and diaphragm kit to cure this however.
Your fuel system must be fairly new and with a clean fuel filter inside the fuel tank. The old fuel lines tend to become brittle and flakes of them break off and enter the carb. They get lodged on a very small screen filter that allows fuel to flow thru the carb.If fuel lines are old or brittle, replace them.
Another problem is that the carb has gone "out" of adjustment or never was adjusted correctly in the first place (not uncommon). With new, stringent EPA and CARB laws and regs, the manufacturers of these carbs set them to run very "lean". This means a lot of air and very little fuel. The problem here being that the lubricant for the engine (in this case) is IN the fuel.
Check the condition and color of the spark plug. It will tell you how the engine is performing. Clean the black carbon off of it and reinstall, or just put a new one in.
So brittle fuel lines, old, stale fuel, clogged up screen strainers inside carb, weak spark and misadjusted carbs can ALL contribute to your machine's problem. It is NOT rocket science but some standard diagnostics and testing is required to narrow down exactly what the problem is. Take a look at the things I have mentioned and remember, I have no idea how OLD or in what mechanical condition your machine is (even though I own one just like it). Post back as needed.
