Question about Dyson DC25 Animal Bagless Upright Vacuum

1 Answer

Changeover not working

The changeover between sucking through the hose or through the head isn't working on my Dyson DC25. This means that, even when in the down position, it always sucks through the hose.

SOURCE: no suction when vacuming floors

Hi.

There are 2 types of Dc07 one is clutched & has two belts the second has only one belt going from motor to brush roller.

Lay machine on its side pull back handle as if you are to vac carpet switch machine on look to see if brush roller is spinning.

If it is not spinning unplug machine from mains supply & remove the sole plate by turning the three plastic screws to unlock position, Lift sole plate away if you have non clutched machine you will now see the brush roller with A belt going from this to the motor shaft belt may have snapped or come off so replace it.

If your Dyson has A clutch unit this engages the brush roller when you pull the handle back to vacuum.

Check the clutch control knob which is at the bottom left side of machine looking from the front.
It should rotate to drive position when handle is pulled back.

If it doesnt turn the knob by hand to drive.

If you still have no brush rotation after doing all this then either the clutch is faulty or the second belt which goes clutch to motor has snapped & will need replacing.

There are service manuals available for these repairs at this site

SOURCE: accessory hose not sucking

Try taking the hose off, and making sure it is not stopped up, either in the hose, or where it attaches. Straighten a wire coat hanger and run down the hose to check for obstructions.

Hope this helps!!!

SOURCE: My dyson dc14 not sucking only from the hose

Hi- I have the same problem: suction fine, but the brushbar was not spinning. I went 1st to the Dyson site and went thru their troubleshooting guide and I'd done all those things, so I called Dyson (1-866-MY DYSON in the USA) and they walked me thru a very simple solution.

What worked was to "rest" the bare floor/carpet adjustment, and it's very easy! You do this by clicking the carpet to bare floor adjustment back and forth at least 5 times. Make sure when you end it's on carpet. Then tilt it back all the way from the upright position so it's flat on the floor and turn it onto it's left side. The carpet indicator should be below the word carpet. THAT WAS IT! As soon as I turned it on again, the brush bar is spinning great! I wish I could tell you right now how well it picks up, but unfortunately I took out the filter and rinsed it, so I have to wait until tomorrow to **** anything up. However, I'm sure it will work now that the brush bar is moving. Like I said, the suction was fine.

Just as an FYI--If you call, they will have you try other things to rule out other problems 1st. I had already done all the things suggested in their troubleshooting guide on their site and the only additional thing they asked me to try was to turn it on and tilt it back as though you are going to vacuum and make sure the suction from the top tube had stopped, as it normally does, and mine did.

Hope this helps!

Liz

SOURCE: The brushes wont turn, but it has good suction for the hose

If the belt seems to ok, you may need to order a replacement clutch assembly. These are not that expensive and can be ordered through dyson or possibly online. Switching from bare floor to carpet while the motor is running is really stressful on the brush mechanism. Turn the motor off before switching to carpet mode and you will never have to replace the clutch again.

Dyson DC41, DC43, DC65 or DC66 - Removing a blockage from the cleaner head or...

If your Dyson DC41, DC43, DC65 or DC66 upright vacuum cleaner doesn't seem to be picking up as well as it should be from carpets or hard floors, this may be due to a blockage. A blockage could occur if an item too big for the machine has been accidentally vacuumed up.

After turning off and unplugging the machine, please follow the steps shown in the video to locate and remove any obstructions from the cleaner head, internal hose or changeover valve.

Suction from top of hose not from head

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

If your DC25 has suction through the wand and hose but not through the cleaner head, it's likely there's a blockage in the cleaner head or the airway. To check for this, please follow the steps shown in our online Support guide: http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/dc25/dc25-irsvsye/my-machine-is-not-working/machine-not-sucking-picking-up-as-well-as-usual/how-to-wash-filters/check-suction

It's also a good idea to give both of the lifetime filters a wash , as shown in the video below. Use cold water without detergent, and allow at least 24 hours for both filters to dry completely before replacing them:

Suction tranfer

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC24 includes a changeover valve which diverts suction power from the main cleaner head to the wand and hose, when you remove the wand from the vacuum.

If your machine doesn't seem to be diverting the suction correctly, we'd recommend checking for any obstructions in the ducts and at the base of the hose. Our online Support guide should help: http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/dc24new/dc24-multi-floor/my-machine-is-not-working/machine-not-sucking-picking-up-as-well-as-usualdc24/check-the-wand-and-hosedc24

The hose suction on my Dyson Animal (DC41) is fine, but will not disengage when you put the hose back and want to use the floor sweeper.

Hi Stacy, it's Jack at Dyson.

This issue you've described with your DC41 sounds unusual, as the changeover valve will divert suction to the cleaner head automatically when you recline the machine into the vacuuming position. If it's not doing this, it's possible you have a blockage somewhere in the cleaner head, internal hose or changeover valve.

To check for this, please follow the steps shown in our online Support guide: http://www.dyson.com/support/dc41/dc41-irspu/diagnosis-root-menu/performance-flo-area-check-dc41/flo-brushbarvid-dc41/redirect-to-performance-flo-base-dc41-checking-the-internal-hose/performance-flo-base-dc41-checking-the-internal-hose

Why won't my dyson Dc28 handle tilt down to vaccum

Hi Robert, it's Jack at Dyson.

If you're having difficulty reclining your DC28 from the upright position, it's possible something like a pen or pencil is jamming the changeover valve.

Our Support guide should help you check for this:http://www.dyson.com/support/dc28/dc28-animal/using-my-dyson-list/redirect-to-flo-dc07-gen-how-to-remove-a-blockage/flo-dc07-gen-how-to-remove-a-blockage/redirect-to-check-ubend-cover-dc28/check-ubend-cover-dc28

Lost suction

Hi Terry, it's Jack at Dyson.

It's very unusual for the changeover valve hose to have become disconnected, as this isn't an easily accessible part. As you recline the machine into the vacuuming position, the hose should move freely forward, to divert suction from the wand and hose to the cleaner head. The changeover valve hose is a push-fit part at both ends. Please don't attempt to dismantle the changeover valve assembly to re-fit it, as this is likely to void any warranty on your machine.

I would strongly encourage you to contact us directly for further guidance on refitting the hose correctly, as we should be able to help you resolve the situation without voiding your machine's 5-year warranty.

If you can email your contact details and the serial number of your machine to askdysonUS@dyson.com, one of our experts will be in touch as soon as possible to provide further assistance.

Best wishes,

Jack

Dyson reset button

Hi there,

DC25 doesn't have a reset button - if the brushbar isn't rotating, please follow the steps shown in the video below to check the cleaner head and brushbar for obstructions, then reset the machine.

Please note, the brushbar will never rotate when the machine is standing upright, so make sure you recline your DC25 into the vacuuming position before testing it.

Dyson DC25 Animal Hose Not Picking Up

Hi Ben,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC25. From what you've described, it sounds as if there may be a blockage in the wand or hose. To resolve this, please follow the steps shown in our online Support guide:

http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/dc25/dc25-multi-floor/my-machine-is-not-working/machine-not-sucking-picking-up-as-well-as-usual/filter-washing-video

If the wand is difficult to reattach to the machine, it may be because the hose has become twisted during use. Remove the wand and allow the hose to straighten itself out before refitting the wand.

I hope this helps - if you'd like any further assistance or advice, please call our customer Helpline 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1-866-693-9766 (US).

Best wishes,

Not suctioning effectively

Hi Shari,
I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC25. If the machine isn't picking up as well as usual, this may be due to a blockage - the filters may also need a wash.
The easiest way to check for and remove any blockages is to follow the steps shown in our online support guide:
http://support.dyson.co.uk/support/dc25/dc25-multi-floor/my-machine-is-not-working/machine-not-sucking-picking-up-as-well-as-usual/how-to-wash-filters/check-suction

In normal use, the filters should be washed at least once every 3 months, as shown in the video linked below. Use cold water without detergent, and allow at least 24 hours for them to dry completely before replacing them.
http://support.dyson.co.uk/support/dc25/dc25-multi-floor/my-machine-is-not-working/machine-not-sucking-picking-up-as-well-as-usual/filter-washing-video

This should resolve the issue, but for any further assistance or advice, please call our Helpline free on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1-866-693-9766 (US).
Best wishes,
