Question about General Electric WHDSR316G Top Load Washer

Open Question

Agitator coupling My washing machine wont agitate the load but it will spin during the spin cycle. I removed the coupling and all the teeth are in tack. When I lift the coupling about an eighth of an inch, the teeth catch and it seems to work.

SOURCE: GE washer agitates but won't spin

I think you may have a stopped up pump does it drain the water out if not it will not spin. A putty knife inserted 2 inches in from each side will release the spring catches and gently pull on front as you release sprins then look to the bottom right hand side and there is the pump clamp the tub to pump hose or **** water out with a shop vac take off tub to pump hose and then two 3/8 in screws that hold down the pump turn over where you can look in the pump may have an obstruction as always disconnect power before service.

Pull up sharply on the agitator to remove it from the shaft. Check the agitator mounting cup underneath it is probably stripped out. It is a replaceable part.
If the agitator is difficult to pull up,use a old strong leather belt under the agitator and pull it off using the belt.

SOURCE: agitator spins freely as if not connected

You have to pull straight upwards on the agitator. They are on that drive bell very securely so you'll have to pull like a madman. I have heard of some technicians using a belt or strap slid under the agitator to get it to pop free. But I just remove them by slipping my fingertips under it on opposite sides and yanking it upwards. Then check to see of bolt is tight that holds agitator in place if the plastic piece moves freely and the bolt its tight here is what I did.Take the bolt of and put 2 washers on the bolt then tighten it back down. This should make it so it will not spin freely.

Hope this helps..

Agitator quit working during wash cycle. If I move timer to rinse and fill with water then move timer to spin the agitator works fine and drains water from the tub

depends on what u mean by agitator works fine on spin? it doesnt do anything on spin cycle cause its not suppose to? if ur saying ur not getting any wash agitation? then I suspect ur cam dogs inside agitator are bad? remove the 7/16 bolt nut and remove top of agitator and u will see the cam dogs underneath it. there fairly cheap like 5-10 bucks for a set, if u can push the agitator back and forth when its all together in tub, and its catching the teeth and not easy to move back in forth, their not bad, but if u have no resistance then they are bad

I have an LG top loading washer, model WT4870CW. During the wash cycle the machine makes a grinding noise. The noise does not occur during draining and spin cycles. Any idea what could be the issue?

Is your agitator moving back and fourth, when on wash cycle
Could be your plastic agitator spline is stripped,

Take it out and check the plastic teeth is not worn inside.

+whirlpool LSQ8243HQ0 water valve works. wont wash or spin. new motor coupling and timer.

Under the agitator you have what is called (agitating dogs). The agitator will have to be removed. The top should spin off, you will be able to look down into the agitator and see a bolt. Remove this bolt and the agitator can be pulled out. The agitators are small pieces of plastic with small teeth. These teeth get worn out over time or if the washer is overloaded. When the agitator free spins one way the teeth grab a (gear) on agitator and this is how you get the washing action (agitating). These dogs are easy to replace and cost about $5. GE WDSR2080D4WW top load washer agitator - Is there a cog type thing in the agitator that could be jammed & if so, how can the agitator be removed? I think whatever connects the agitator to the motor...

pull out the agitator. this may be difficult because soap gets built up underneath and250 acts almost like a glue. use a leather belt and put it under the agitator and pull straight up. once you get it off you will see a bolt holding down a coupling. take the bolt out and replace the coupling with a new one. this should solve your problem with the machine not agitating. the part # for the bell coupling is: WH43X10009.

Agitator doesn't spin during wash cycle

If The washer won't agitate
Check to make sure no clothing got wrapped around the agitator. Check the lid switch, timer, and drive belt, other potential causes, such as a bad transmission or bad agitate/spin solenoid, but they are much more involved.
if the washer won't spin, the lid switch, timer, drive belt, transmission, or agitate/spin solenoid could be the cause here as well. Sometimes if the load is unbalanced or too heavy, the washer won't spin. Take some of the clothes out and try the spin cycle again with a lighter load.

Here are the steps to replace the agitator.
1: Take the fabric softener dispenser off and pry off the agitator lid.
2: Use a socket wrench with an extension bar to remove the stud and seal.
3: Remove the agitator top and bottom.
4: Check the agitator clutch assembly (located in the agitator top) for excessive wear.
5: To replace, just reverse the directions.
