PDF encryption, set PDF password and recover PDF password

PDF encryptionGenerally, PDF files are with a password called User Password, which is used to open the file and view the document. To encrypt a PDF password does not simply mean you can’t open and view the document, but PDF files have five to seven encryption ways to protect the file for office needs. Owner password, the other password of PDF files, is another crucial PDF password, which is to protect the file from maybe being copied (to Clipboard), printed, or modified, etc. So, in speaking of PDF password, it doesn’t necessary mean the one which you use to open the file.
PDF encryption largely relies on the sophisticated algorithm that hardly to be reversed. For example, you are easy to calculate that 1000 plus 1 is 1001, however, the reverse is seemed impossible, for 1001 can be an answer of countless calculations. PDF encryption works in the similar way. In this sense, given a password, it’s easy to deduce and decipher some data; however, the reverse PDF password recovery seems impossible.
Generally speaking PDF encryption with 128 bits key value is much more secure than that of 32 bits. PDF encryption is accomplished by a key value, either 128 or 32 bits in size. When using the key, all the bytes are changed (unless they are decoded back with the same key) into meaningless codes, and the file is impossible to be opened. Only the meaningless codes are calculated back using the correct value is it possible to get the correct password and open the file. 128 bits has a lot more possible values than the one with 32 bits, so it is much more secure. If your password is forgotten and intend to recover PDF password, PDF Password Unlocker software could be faster, for it supports 128 bits encryption, either 128 bits RC4 or 128 bits AES encryption.

PDF files are composed with objects, like image Objects, graphic Objects, and text Objects, etc. The key is calculated for each PDF Object in the PDF file using local data, which is much hard to crack, as the key keeps changing.
Set and remove PDF passwordsAdd a PDF Password1. Click the Secure button pdf-encryption-and-pdf-password-recovery_clip_image002.jpg in the Tasks toolbar, and choose Password Encrypt.
2. Click “Yes” to the prompt about changing the security, and if necessary, type the Permissions password that lets you change security settings. If you don’t know the password, contact the author of the PDF.
3. In the Password Security - Settings dialog box, set the security options as desired, confirm the password, click OK, and then click OK again.
4. Save the document to apply the security settings.
Note: You can also restrict editing capabilities when you certify a document, or when you apply a policy to a PDF.
Remove PDF passwords and security settingsYou can remove PDF passwords and security policies from an open PDF if you have the permissions to do so. If the PDF is secured with a security policy that resides on a server, the changes can be made only by the author of the policy or by a server administrator.
1. Do one of the following: Click the Secure button pdf-encryption-and-pdf-password-recovery_clip_image002_0000.jpg in the Tasks toolbar, and choose Remove Security.
Type your password, and click Yes to the prompt about removing the security.
In the Security tab of the Document Properties dialog box, choose No Security from the Security Method menu.
2. When prompted, specify the Permissions password, and then click OK. Recover PDF password in case you forgot it.Every coin has two sides. Even the PDF document is strongly encrypted with passwords, it is impossible to insure that it is secure. Once you forgot PDF password, the data in the encrypted PDF file are on the risk of unavailability. Unless fortunately the password knocks your memory again, you got the data lost or you have to give up the document eventually. With the ever-growing of strong encryption algorithms, decryption algorithms gradually come into existing, too. Though the cracking is far more difficulty than ever before, it is still of help to those expecting to recover PDF password and access the password protected PDF file. Take PDF Password Unlocker, a popular PDF password recovery software, for example, it has adopted the advanced decryption algorithms to crack 40-bit RC4, 128-bit RC4, 128-bit AES, and 256-bit AES encrypted passwords with 3 attack methods, Dictionary attack, Brute-force attack, and Brute-force with Mask attack

Protect your computer, your information, and your company?s network

10 ways to work more securely

The security of your computer and data is crucial for you and the success of your company. Lost or stolen information can reveal company secrets, or expose your confidential or personal information. The more you do to keep your computer secure, the safer your information will be. Use these 10 tips to learn ways you can help protect your computer, your data, and your company's network.
1. Work with your IT department

Make sure that you install all of the patches and updates that your IT department recommends. In addition to installing Windows and Office updates, your IT department might require you to install additional security software, such as a firewall or custom software to help you connect from remote locations. Making these regular installations will keep your computer and your company's network as secure as possible.

Learn more about ways to manage your computer and devices at work.
2. Use strong passwords

Passwords provide the first line of defense against unauthorized access to your computer, and a good password is often underestimated. Weak passwords provide attackers with easy access to your computer and network. Strong passwords are considerably harder to crack, even with the latest password-cracking software.

A strong password:

*

Is at least eight characters long.
*

Does not contain your user name, real name, or company name.
*

Does not contain a complete dictionary word.
*

Is significantly different from previous passwords. Passwords that change just slightly—such as Password1, Password2, Password3—are not strong.
*

Contains characters from each of the following groups:
o

Uppercase and/or lowercase letters.
o

Numbers
o

Symbols (!,@,#,$,%, etc.)

Learn more about how to create strong passwords.
3. Don't enable the Save Password option

Make it mandatory for you—or someone else trying to access your computer—to enter your password on all operating system or application settings. If a dialog box prompts you about remembering the password, rather then requiring you to enter it, just choose no. Allowing the password to be saved negates having the password at all.
4. Use network file shares instead of local file shares

Rather than opening up your computer to co-workers, use network file shares to collaborate on documents. And restrict access to the network file share to only those who need it. If you're working on a team, you have lots of other options—such as using Microsoft Office Groove 2007 or Microsoft Office SharePoint 2007.
5. Lock your computer when you leave your desk

If you're going to be away from your desk for a while, make sure your computer is locked.

To lock your computer:

1.

On your keyboard, press CTRL+ALT+DELETE at the same time.
2.

Click Lock this computer (Lock Computer if you're running Windows XP).
3.

To unlock your computer, press CTRL+ALT+DELETE and enter your password.

6. Use password protection on your screensaver

Sometimes you're away from your desk for longer than you unexpected. Plan for those situations by setting up your computer so that it locks itself after a specified amount of time.

7. Encrypt files containing confidential or business critical files

You keep valuable and sensitive data on your computer. You might have sensitive information about your company or clients, or your personal bank statements on a laptop you use at home and work. Encrypting your data keeps it as secure as possible. To help keep unauthorized people from accessing your data—even if your computer is lost or stolen—you should encrypt all sensitive data. In the Enterprise and Ultimate editions of Windows Vista, you can use BitLocker™ Drive Encryption to encrypt the entire volume. In Windows XP and all editions of Windows Vista, you can use the Encrypting File System (EFS) to protect important files. 8. Don't open questionable e-mails

If an e-mail message just doesn't look right, it probably isn't. Forward the e-mail message to your IT administrator to verify before you open it.
9. Encrypt e-mail messages when appropriate

If you're sending confidential or business-critical information, encrypt the e-mail and any files attached to it. Only recipients who have the private key that matches the public key you used to encrypt the message can read it.

10. Use the Junk E-mail Filter in Outlook

Receiving spam, or junk e-mail messages, isn't just annoying. Some spam can include potentially harmful viruses that can cause damage to your computer and your company's network. The Junk E-mail Filter reduces the amount of junk e-mail messages, or spam, you receive in your Inbox. Good news—if your junk mail filter is already active. But you can always change the settings.

Dear all, I have encrypted a file and will open it later on. I type in the password and checkboxes "Open file after decryption" and "Encrypt file after use". Then the file opens but the...

It may be encrypted with windows encryption, but in your table of "Registered File Types"
you have Kruptos 2 Professional as the program to open, based upon the file type.

Also, if the file is one of the versions of Microsoft Word files, it can have a decryption
password assigned through Microsoft Word, in addition to a separate password
from Windows encryption and/or Kruptos encryption (Yay! up to 3 passwords to
decrypt/access one file!)

Either that, or the Kruptos 2 Professional software is buggy, and you've already discovered the workaround.
Check Kruptos for update(s) to its software - they may have fixed it in a bug-fix release (much
like Microsoft releases numerous updates, hot-fixes, and service packs for its bug-filled operating systems software suite, and Microsoft Office software suite).
