Dryer won't start when knob is pulled.

I have an Maytag Atlantis dryer - when I pull the knob to start the dryer, it won't start. I have found that moving the knob to the left seems to make it help make a 'contact' and start the dryer, but the problem is getting progressively worse - and more frustrating. I can hear the timer ticking away, but the dryer still won't start
What part would need to be replaced to correct this issue?

Also - where would I get instructions on replacing this part myself?

If you push the knob to the left and it makes a good contact and starts the machine, then replace the timer switch. Write down the Name and Model Number of the machine (usually on or below the door)
take it to a local appliance shop and order a new part. When you recieve the new part UNPLUG the machine and remove the three screws from of the top of the electrical compartment and gently pull o the front open, there is only one plug attached to the switch, remove it and dislodge the old switch, then snap the new switch in place and replace the plug, close the compartment and replace the three screws, plug in the dryer, and try it.

Maytag Atlantis MDE7400AY Dryer pull knob not engaging dryer, changed it, still doesn't work. Please help! : )

If it won't run at all that probably is due so some sort of lint build up. To get into this dryer you remove the door first and since it is reversible you remove 2 screws on the opposite side as well and then the goalpost shaped front can pop off there. Then you remove the 2 things that hold down the top to the frame. Then you can remove the shrould. Then you can get the drum out. On the blower housing is a round fuse most likely it is blown. Their is another one just like it also near the blower. Check it as well. Clean her up and look for a loose blower wheel. That can cause the fuse to blow also. Now HERE IS YOUR SERVICE MANUAL. When did you say them cookies was gonna be ready? LOL

When I pull the knob out to start it doesn't start

There is a door switch that not only turns on the light in the dryer, but also completes the circuit so the machine can start. Check the switch by pushing the button on the switch with your finger and listen for a positive clicking sound. If there isn't a click, the switch is most likely the cause and is fairly easy to replace by pulling the front cover off the dryer.

The start knob doesn't engage when pulled. Do I just need to replace the knob assembly? Is it difficult?

Take the knob off and try using pliers to pull the stem. Don't pull any harder than you would with the knob. If it works, you just need a knob. If it still won't engage, you need a timer.

The dryer has power but the start cycle knob only buzzes

IF THIS MODEL USES THE TIMER TO START THE MACHINE BY PULLING OUT ON THE KNOB, I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE QUITE A FEW TIMERS FOR THIS PROBLEM. SOMETIMES BY MOVING THE KNOB UP AND DOWN AND SIDE TO SIDE WHILE PULLING WILL START THE MACHINE. IF SO, REPLACE TIMER.

Hard to start dryer, control know loose/misaligned

your saying that pulling the timer knob out, which normally starts dryer, does nothing. however if you pull out and apply pressure upwards on knob and touch nothing else, the dryer will start??? if the thats the case sounds like a short in the timer mechanism , youll need to replace the timer assy
