Flotec Shallow Well Jet Pump won't pump water

Model FP4012-00L. Started up yesterday for the first time in a long while. Was workng fine. 40 pounds of pressure. Today it was turned on without noticing that the pump was disconnected from the well head. Ran for about 5 minutes. No pressure. No water. Does the pump have to be primed? How do you prime it? There's an expansion tank on the top that says 40psi. Is this tank for water or air?

The tank is an air tank, it works like a cushon and accumulator.

Have you reconnceted the pump? If not fill the pipe that goes to the well with water. It should not drain down, there should be a foot valve that prevents the water from running back into the well. So if the foot valve is working it should not take a lot of water to do this.

Pour water into the suction side of the pump until the pump is as full as you can get it, reconnect the pump and start it up. Yes it does need to be primed

Good luck

I cannot get my new Flotec 4012-10 well pump to prime or pump water

Even new pumps have faulty parts. It could be that the foot valve is defective.

I ask a question yesterday about a flotec 1 hp pump. How do I know if I need to rebuild the pump or if my well has got to low on water?

how deep is the well can you hear the pump working.or are you able to pull the pump up to inspect it.or can you place ahose down the well to be sure that water is down there, some pumps have a pressure sensor so when theres no water it switches of so as it does not opperate dry, because this will damage the seals in the pump, hoe this helps.

3/4hp pump stalls before finally starting on 5th or 6th try.

Sounds to be a need for a new start capacitor. Have an electrician come out and chk it out.Good luck -ned-

I have a Flotec FP 4022-10 3/4 hp shallow well pump. It was working fine yesterday afternoon and then in the evening I had no water. I replaced the pressure switch and checked the pressure in the tank...

If heating up, the motor thermal switch is opening to shut down the motor; this is by design. During the brief run time does it pump at all? It sounds as if there may be mechanical issues on the pump itself and the motor (from the extra draw) is heating up and shutting down. I'd look in to the pump to see if anything had failed within it.
I hope this may have helped,
Tom

I have a flotec jet pump for a shallow well. It keeps throwing the GFI and shutting off after only 10-15 seconds. I have replaced receptacle, water level is fine (has a float).

If this is a new problem that has just started
The GFI mite be bad or the motor mite be going bad Need to check the amp draw of the motor this will tell you witch is the problem

Primed my shallow well pump---started okay--

sometimes pipe will scale over time depending on the water chemistry.
You can use PVC pipe indoors where your water enters the house.
