Maxtor 300Gb 6L300SO Internal HD

Hi. I have a Maxtor HD as described above. It has 4 Bad Sectors on it. I have tried to repair same earlier, using the DOS version of Maxblast, but it does not last. One of my backup programs will not back up to a drive with Bad Sectors on it. How do I find out whether it is still under warranty ? Many Thanks for any assistance.

Re: Maxtor 300Gb 6L300SO Internal HD

I had a similar problem a month ago. Go to the Seagate site(They own Maxtor now) Click on the Customer Service and support link, then the warranty link. Supply the serial number and they'll give you the warranty info. I got an RMA number from the site, and received my (Refurbished) drive in about 10 days. They supplied a box to return the original drive, and I apid the postage. A very quick, easy and satisfactory exchange.

Wow well I mostly believe this is hard ware failure, but lets try a few things first..

1.) connect the drive to another system and see if it works..

2.) open up the unit and see what type of drive it uses,,
ensure the cables are intact of if its possible change the

If those fail, get another external unit and if its possible change the drive the unit has inside it..

IF you are unable to do the above or if it fails you will need to take it to a technician because

1.) To recover the files on the drive
2.) to determine if its recoverable or repairable..
3.) to repair it if possible
4.) to transfer the files to another drive if necessary..

If you wish to try to repair it (if necessary) i can attempt to walk you through it , but the risk is you can cause more harm then actually fix it.. Le me know what you decide.

Hi, How urgent is to change my HD while it already has 10 bad sectors ? HD name (as writen in the HD properties in the control panel) is: HITACHI HDS721025CLA382 ATA Device It's also described that it's...

This is not an urgent issue, it is normal for a hard drive to have bad sectors. When you consider there are billions of sectors on a typical hard drive, 10 is pretty insignificant.

My external hard drive is 300g,i formatted my internal hard drive and found that my external drive was also formatted and was only 3g.could someone help me please that's a lot of space lost

do you have a recovery disk for the internal hard drive? this is the disk that came with pc.your internal HD is important this have been wiped (you have no OS) . get your internal back in you have a receipt that says you purchased a 300gb (not 3gb) take it back get your money or the right external... once you are able to use the pc double check the external hard drive

My Maxtor One Tough 4 Plus 750GB says I have Bad LBA. Can this be fixed?

Your best bet is to contact maxtor, they will either suggest a diagnostic
tool for you to run, and then or will give a code, and then they will decide
if they should repair it.

They just might tell you to send it in.

There are programs that can try and repair bad sectors on a hard drive
but it depends on how much damage is on the drive.

See what the company will do, and if it will cost you anything besides shipping.

If you don't want them to repair it because of cost, post back and we can give you some tools for repair. They might not work as I said.

Maxtor one touch 4 mini suddenly not recognised by any PC

I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news but you are describing a hard disk failure.

Maxtor, Hitachi and IBM disks have unusually high failure rates. I have replaced hundreds of these disks.

I recommend replacing with a Seagate or Western Digital disk.

If this helps please vote for my solution.

Drive won't mount

i had a maxtor one touch go bad and had to open the case and take it out of the external casing and put it into my computer as an internal drive. then it worked fine. it was a single drive.

just today i had a maxtor TB drive go bad, and since i think it has two drives inside it i am very worried that i will not be able to do the same thing.

Maxtor one Touch 300GB no steady green light

The USB Isn,t supplying/providing enough Power to the device.
Search e-bay or similar for a 2 into 1 USB Cable.
Then power the unit with 2 USB Ports on the Computer.
2 x USB Into 2 x Sockets On P.C. 1 x Into Device Drive.
This will be enough power to operate the Device Correctly.

I,ve done this on several external Drives, never failed for Me.

Maxtor OneTouch II 300Gb can't recover data after a system restore

I had the same problem a few weeks ago.

The way I solved my problem was to make sure when I restored Windows to the default settings that I did it up to the same support packs and hot fixes then when backing up the system with the Maxtor HD. It took me many days to figure this out... was written it the Maxtor HD documentation and it works fine.

Hope this helps.
