Sounds like the thermostat is bad on your heater.

SOURCE: What does the Water Temp Shorted message mean as I

You have two sensors coming from the box at the equipment. One will be hanging just below the box. The other will go to a pipe and have a stainless steel clamp holding it in the pipe. This is the one you will need to replace.
After shutting the pump down remove the clamp and pull probe from pipe then follow the wire back inside the box. You will need a small screwdriver to remove wires and install wires from new one. Then just mount back in pipe.

Heater temp is 78 the water temp 68 how do I reset heater temp to match pool temp.

Sounds like a faulty temp sensor. Check it for debris, clean it good and see if that does it. If not try replacing it.

Water temp is 140 degrees, motor running and display shows code Sn

I'm not sure which system you have but if your water temp sensor is accurate you have a runaway heater. There are several safeguards internal to the heater that are supposed to prevent this from happening. Max water temp should be 104F. So if your low limit, high limit, redundant limit (if one), and t-stat were working ANY ONE of them should have shut down the heat. Get a qualified tech out to troubleshoot it. This heater has either been rigged at some point, or the gas valve is defective. In either case it is in a very hazardous condition and should not be used!

Use a high quality external temp probe and make sure the temp sensor in your system is correctly reading the water temp.
If the water is truly 110 then you may need to replace the board completely.

I have had my Rinnai tankless for about 8 years without problems. Recently I am noticing that the water temperature is fluctuating from the set temperature to a cooler temp and then back up to the set...

The Rinnai will shut off it can't maintain the temperature you have set to within +/- 3 degs so I'd guess that might be the problem. The cause can be a few options. Check water flow first; any filters you have in tapware, main water flow etc. get cleaned. The Rinnai has a water line filter in the incoming supply, middle pipe under the heater just after the isolating valve. Gas supply could be the other option mainly being a possible intermittent fault in the gas regulator. Hard to check this one short of just changing it. Final option is some sort of electronic malfunction, pretty rare. I'd start with the water flow issue as you can do this yourself. Checking the gas will need a good technician with digital gas pressure guage to check incoming and working gas pressures; it might just need to be recalibrated. Just hasd a thought about the heat exchanger being scaled up if you are in an arera where water scale is a problem but this would normally take far less than 8 years to be a problem. Sorry can't be of more help; hard when it might be a few different causes.

Heater cycles on and of, pool/spa does not reach desired temp

hello, It sounds like you may not be getting circulation thru the heater. Make sure the valves are open to allow water to pass thru the heating system. Some systems use a bypass on the heater so there is not a lot of wear on the coil system in the heater. If it is not circulating it will get too hot and the safety shut down will occure. If you are getting water circulating thru the heater, then the thermocouple or auto start igniter system is not working correctly. It is trying to start and can't then recycles. If the burners are igniting on the startup and then shutting back down you may have a bad control unit or thermal sensor unit. Since the unit is gas have a professional service it for you. Good Luck, RAC

You have air in the cooling system, it needs bleeding, this is best done from the heater hoses. you cannot have a heating or cooling sysem that is not pressurised. no water no heater no demister no temp guage

Yes it is very possible that exactly what you are describing can be happening. Also try a thermometer frozen in a cup of water to get more accurate temps. Also 33 in the fridge is very normal for the cold control set on max and the heater installed. Let me know the temps in the frz with the thermometer sensing product temp not air temp which fluctuates often.
