Moen single shower handle won't come off even after set screw is removed

I am trying to remove the handle and face plate off of a Moen single handle shower faucet. I have removed the set screw from the handle, but I cannot get it to come off. I don't want to damage it because I will be reusing it once I tile the shower enclosure. Are there any secrets I am missing?

Wow the post says can't get handle off even after set screw is removed and the advice given is, it's an Allen screw, duh he got it out but the handle is stuck. Pull off the handle there are limiters behind it, his problem is the handle genius not water temp.

Sometimes the valve sticks to the handle, try spraying a little vinegar or delimer and let it sit a moment; then wiggle it loose.

SOURCE: how do I remove the single faucet handle to replace it.

There is a set screw in the handle, it can either be a hex screw or it can be a philips head screw depending on which faucet you have. If you have a clear decrative handle then there is a cap that you remove and the screw is behind it. Once you remove it you can remove the other trim.

heat it up with a torch, or just break it off, you can call moen at that point and kindly tell them that your handle broke and you need a new handle and cartridge. or you can get a drill and drill the allen screw out, they are such a pain i usually break them when i can get them out and get parts for it then

It would be an allen wrench. Any typical multi sized wrench should have the proper sized allen wrench.

The holes can often become filled with grime so be sure to seat the wrench properly to prevent stripping.

Take the round cover plate off and it will make getting that part off easier. You will be able to use a screw driver to help in removing it.

They make face plates to cover up removal of faucets in tile. They are chrome and will fit any 6" single handle faucet cover plate.

They are used to cover up tile for removal of 8" spread faucets so you have a little room to move if you have to cut valve out and replace.

Lowes started carrying them and a plumbing supply house should have them if not email me and I will try to get you a address to get one if this will help you out.

They are about $15- $20 for it. Lowes carry them in NC .

Leaking hot water from delta single handle facuet

I have to assume you've unscrewed the face plate, not removed it, because you can't do that without taking the handle off. Delta handle usually come off by unscrewing an allen (set) screw just under the handle itself. Sometimes these are covered by a plastic plug.

Occasionally, even after you've completely removed the set screw, the handle still won't come off. Wiggling and pulling for a few minutes will generally get it off. If not, then a hacksaw, new handle and new cartridge are the answer.

If the allen screw is stripped and that's why it won't ome off, see above.

Good Luck.

Moen single handle shower faucet, contstanly drips

Moen single handle - push pull has a screw beneath the handle cover plate. The Moen single lever handle has an allen wrench screw located under the curve of the handle. Once either one of these screws are removed, the handle should come off easily.
Once the handle is off, the water must be turned off and then you can remove the cartridge. Some cartridges are difficult to remove and may require a special tool. Most new cartridge packages have information on them to explain how to remove the cartridge.
