Question about Ruud UAKA030 Air Conditioner

1 Answer

Air Conditioning I have a ruud system with the air conditioner outside and the air handler upstairs in the attic. My systems appears to be running, and I can feel cold air at the vents, but I can barely feel it. Like there is no flow. The fan outside is running and the unit in the attic is running. I have no clue what the problem is. The large coil coming from the heat pump outside is cold and has condensation on it. It also seems to have a little ice. It has been extremely hot here in Georgia the past few days 100+ with the heat index. What can I do to fix this problem? I just changed the air filters and I am not sure what else to do???

Re: Air Conditioning

Open the access panel on the air handler in the attic and take a look at the evaporator coil. If you have no airflow, and you just changed the air filter, then you probably have a buildup of airborne crud on the coil that's blocking airflow. If you do have a layer of buildup blocking airflow through the coil in the air handler, just take a $5 fin comb and scrape all the crud off the coil fins. This can make a dramatic difference. Hope this helps! ;)

Can you see the condition of the coil itself? If it is blocked this could be a cause for the frozen coils. Also, check the condition of the blades on the indoor fan. Dirt and dust accumulation on the blades reduces airflow.

Ac blower motor attic

that is a model number for the outside condensing unit. to find the motor size for the inside unit, you will need the model off of the inside unit, gas furnace or electric air handler.

My upstairs heating is blowing cold air. The air handler in the attic is running but no heat. Down stairs is fine, I get heat

Question: Is your heat produced by a furnace? (If so-- what kind of fuel?)
Or is heat produced by Air Conditioning nits working in reverse-- called Heat Pumps?

If Heat Pumps, You realize that when it gets very cold outside, there is not much 'heat' out ther, to get the heat from outside temperature, right?

Sometimes the out-door coils will freeze up, and you get even less heat then--

Please tell us more-- so we can take the clues you give us, and we'll trouble shoot the problems as best we can remotely, like this-

RUUD uaka-036jaz not cooling, outside fan does not turn on but air handler (in attic) runs and circulates hot air - how to fix and/or reset?

Check your disconnect or breaker that is located close to the outside unit. Next you need to check the contactor in the outside unit. Set the thermostat to make the air come on then check the contactor. It should be pulled in closing the contacts. If it isn't the problem could be the contactor or thermostat. Next check the voltage on the load side with it pulled in. If that's good then check the capacitor. If it looks swollen, it's bad. You can also use a multimeter with the capacitor check function to do this. Let me know what you find.

Hi, After finding out that Freon is low by seeing snow/icy surface on outside compressor, I went up in the attic to find snowy/Icy surface all over the coil inside the air handler. I wahsed it and made...

Your still froze up.There is a freeze cutoff device in the air handler upstairs.
Look for a thin silver color tube near the coil and follow it to the control box, there may be a reset button. If not, try using a hair dryer to warm up the coil and it should reset itsself.
These freeze devices can take an hour to reset on there own sometimes,do not run the compressor while doing this.

Central air conditioning system is blowing warm air.

many, many. Is the outside unit running? If it is, is the compressor running? Feel the refrigerant lines leaving the unit. Little one should be warm. Big one should be cold, probably sweating.

I have a Ruud air-conditioner/heat pump and it blows 5 amp fuse.

It sounds like the thermostat wire going to the condenser is ground, It either got pulled loose and is touching the housing or as in most cases the wire got cut or was chewed by an animal. You need to turn electric off to both devices and physically inspect the thermostat wire going from the air handler to the outside unit, also inspect where they connect inside the unit. When you find the break, cut and strip each individual wire and securely wire nut each conducter red to red white to white and so on. There you go all fixed. That's when I give you the bill for $75...except this time you write that check to yourself. Good Luck

Does my Heil air handler have a air filter or just coils??

The Air filter should be located under a grid in the ceiling somewhere in the house. That is where the air in taken and returned after it passes thru the air handler in the attic. There has to be an access to the attic in order to service the air handler if needed. That is Code. Your system, I presume, is a "split system" with the condensing unit outside and he air handler in the attic...

My Blower Turns itself on when it is not supposed to.

If your indoor unit is located in the attic, you may be experiencing the result of a high temperature safety device (possibly too sensitive) that is responding to warm air drifting up the return air duct. The function of this device is to turn on the fan at a given set point and cool the unit back down. Have someone identify your limit rating and change the limit device with one rated the same or see if the maker of the unit has an upgrade/service bulletin on this fault.
