When this happened to me I held the shaft of the drill bit tightly with my hand and reversed the direction of drive for an instant. It released at that point. It still does that occassionally though.

jacobs come out with this all metal keyless chuck(i think thats what you have) and if thats the case, there is no solution for this youll have to replace the hole chuck, being its new, it may be under warrenty

The problem was the cord at the base of the drill. The wires were broken, cause by constant bending. After souldering the wires, the drill works perfectly.

did you check the battery under a load condition?as in check the voltage under drill operation,most batteries will check their normal top charge voltage when not being used,this is known as a surface charge,but under load the voltage may severly drop leading to burned or overheated armatures,have it load tested
