Question about Dell Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Fonts repeatedly uninstalled

I've been having trouble with some fonts that I use for work - I install them (by dragging them into the fonts folder sometimes and sometimes manually) every day, and they are gone again the next time I start up my computer. I'm the administrator, and I'm the only person who uses this computer. I have them saved on my desktop. What should I do?

SOURCE: My desktop is not centered

Sounds like your monitor setting are messed up. Monitors have buttons on the edge or side. Pressing one of these buttons brings up a menu. There usually is an item which will grow or shink the image. Also a menu item for centering the image. Play with these and see if they help.

Be careful with "input select". Most monitors have two inputs in the back. With the "input select" button or memory item you can switch to the other input and the screen goes blank. Just switch back with the same button.

SOURCE: DELL DIMENSION 5150 SOMETIME WILL NOT SWITCH ON

You need to get into the bios of your system and setup the date, time, and disable floppy boot. You may also want to clean any/all dust/dirt/hair from your system and make sure your fans are working. Sounds like your cmos battery failed (you changed that) and that your processor/motherboard is failing due to overheating

It sounds like you are trying to install some fonts, and trying to install a lot of fonts can get a little tricky. also sounds like you are transferring these from a DVD? The following should help:
first lets create a new folder on the desktop, call it something like "britannica fonts 1"now try just transferring a portion of the fonts to your desktop into the newly created folder.ok, once those have finished moving from the DVD to the desktop go ahead and drag and drop those .ttf files from the desktop to the windows fonts folder.repeat this step until they're all installed. you can delete the desktop files afterwards. The fonts are installed now and won't be going anywhere .

HI GUDPM JUST WANNA ASK HOW TO DOWNLOAD FONTS IN NOKIA N7O????

Changing N70 Fonts f you are one of those who do not like the plain default font or if you are a "dare to be different" kind of person then this one is for you! Change the fonts to whatever you have available or whatever suits your taste. Get ready for a little facelift for your phonemag-glass_10x10.gif smile.gif

Some background information: Nokia N70 does not use TTF font files, instead it uses GDR file which is a compilation of all the fonts that will be used by the phone. What we will do in the following steps is select the fonts that we want to use, use an application to compile the GDR file containing those fonts and finally uploading the font to the handset. Alright, time to begin.

#1. Download and install GDR crreator Download it here. http://www.crazylittleworld.com/n70/egdrsetup.zip
#2. Run the application. Dont worry about the funny language. I will explain how to use it to make working fonts.
#3. You will see various tabs in the application. Each tab is there to set the font for a certain part of the phone. The phone preview on the left shows the part where the font belongs. Navigate till you get familiar with what is under each tab.

#4. Under each tab, click browse to select the font, set the size (defaults should work fine unless your font is too small or too big) and select whether you want just the basic character set (ASCII/Unicode) or want all the characters + symbols from that font (Symbian/Unicode). From my experience Symbian/Unicode is only needed for Text Messaging (2nd tab in the application). See the image below for descriptions on application.

Easy GDR

#5. After you've set the font, click the "Compile Font" button (see image below) to add the font to the GDR and have a look at "Preview Font" window to get an idea of what the font will look like on the phone.

Easy%20GDR

#6. Finally, click the "Compile to GDR" button and save the file. Name it as you please.

Easy%20GDR

#7. Now transfer the GDR file to your N70 via Bluetooth. Create a folder named "Fonts" in C:\System and copy the file from inbox to the Fonts folder (like we did with the Screensaver files above). In the end you should get this - C:\System\Fonts\<filename>.gdr

#8. Delete the GDR file from Messaging -> Inbox and restart the phone.

#9. Congratulations, you've just installed new fonts on your N70. quote.gif

Cannot open a PDF. Tells me a font package is required. I have followed the prompts and the Font package is on my desktop. I have done this three times and still am unable to open the file

Fonts don't go on the desktop. You can right-click on the font package on the desktop and pick "Install" from the menu, or you can just drag it to the Fonts folder in the Windows folder. Then other applications will be able to access the font, and you should be able to view the PDF file. Details about installing fonts can be found in this article from Microsoft.

Fonts

I assume you already have fonts you want to install. If not, you'll need to buy what you want first from somewhere like fonts.com.

  1. Open "My Computer"
  2. Open "C:"
  3. Open "WINDOWS"
  4. Find the Fonts folder, but don't open it.
  5. Drag the font(s) you want to install to the fonts folder.
You might need to restart programs you have open for the new font(s) to appear in the fonts menu.
