Question about Rheem 13AJN36A01 3 Ton 13 SEER Air Conditioner

1 Answer

Have a RHEEM Central air/heat system.Model: 13AJN36A01All works well, except when my heat is on, if I switch the fan on the thermostat from AUTO to ON, my condensor unit outside kicks on. Looked up this model and it doesn't contain a heat pump so I don't believe it should ever kick on the condensor unit when the heat is on (regardless of fan setting).

How do you turn on only the fan to cirrulate air through the house in the summer?

Hello Wendy,

You didn't say what kind of system you have, so we'll assume you have central heating and air conditioning.

There are a few things you can do to keep air moving in the house with your central system. Depending on the brand of system you have, you can turn the heat/cool switch on the thermostat to "off" and turn the fan auto/on switch to "on." This will disable cooling and heating but allow the fan to run continuously.

You can turn the thermostat up to a temperature far above what you would normally use in summer and turn the auto/off fan switch to on. This will force the fan to run continuously. The cooling will still work when the temperature in the building exceeds the higher set point.

These steps will work on most systems but if you have one of the new "NEST" or other internet-connected temperature control systems, you can refer to the operating instructions to see what your options might be.

Note that leaving the fan on all the time will result in higher electrical costs, more wear and tear and you may have to clean or change the furnace filter more often.

You might be better served by purchasing a free-standing floor type "tower" fan and placing it in the room you are in most frequently.

You could also use (or install) ceiling fans.

I have a Rheem Classic Super Quiet 80 gas furnace (for heat). The fan stops when the "heat" turns on.

Any time I ever had trouble, first thing to suspect is the thermostat.
They lose contact sometimes and sometimes you tap the face and they work til next glitch.
If the thermostat has some years on it,go ahead and replace it.
Can't you just leave the heat and fan in auto? That would be best,I think. don-ohio

Where is the summer/winter switch located on Dayton Fuel Trimmer furnace model 3E438A.?

The typical 'summer/winter' switch is an added switch associated with OLD heating systems back in the 50's and 60's before central air conditioning became common in homes. I doubt that your new furnace had one installed because you can accomplish the same thing by switching the fan on at the thermostat sub-base. That is, of course, providing you have a subbase with 'fan-on-auto' on it.

Whirlpool model WC260A-1A cannot find manual and central air conditioner will not turn on worked well 2 days ago.

Does the fan turn on when you have it set to cool? does the furnace still work? Does the fan auto, and on options still work?(for example when on its on, when auto, and neither the cool or heat functions should be running, the fan is off)? Basicly i'm asking your to test your thermostat right now.

Hi i have a rheem central air unit. The outside unit does not want to turn on. i just recharged it with freon about a month ago so it cant be that

Check the circuit breaker(s) for the outdoor unit. Then set the thermostat to make the unit come on and see if the contactor pulls in. If it doesn't turn the fan switch from auto to on and see if the indoor fan comes on. If not your transformer could be shot. If the contactor pulled in on the outside unit check the capacitor for the fan and compressor.

We do not know how to turn the whole house fan on. Does it work through the thermostat on the walll for the air- heat switch?

To turn on your whole house fan, got to you thermostat. Open the door and look for where it says fan, most will have a selector switch to select "auto" or "on". You want it "auto for it to work properly with your furnace and or central air. If you flip it to "on" it will run 24 hours a day none stop, warning this may shorten the life of your fan a little.

Fan running constantly in the house

Check t-stat and make sure fan is set to "Auto", that might be why fan is running all the time, or it could be a fan relay that is stuck closed. It sounds like you A/C is over charged or you have a bad high pressure switch, this was a common problem with this manufacture especially in the heat mode.

My air handler comes on ,not the outside unit when my thermostat is in the off position even if i turn the thermostat down to 50 and have it turned off the air handler comes on for about 5 to 10 minutes...

If you have a standard thermostat the fan switch is for the air handler only. It completely over rides the thermostat for most settings. Now lets see this is what I'd expect:
fan switch on Indoor fan runs all time
Fan switch auto Indoor fan only runs when thermostat is set to cool or heat and the thermostat is turned up above room temp for heat or below room temp for cooling. In both of these modes the furnace blower comes on and stays on til the room temperature is satisfied. The outdoor unit only comes on for AC the out door unit will not come on for heat or the "on" setting on the thermostat. See exception 1 & 2 below...

Exception 1- (in a heat pump the out door unit runs in both heat and cool mode unless it has emergency heat turned on then it will not come on outside in the heat mode, and depending on the type of heat pump and furnace or air handler it is). A heat pump thermostat usually has "backup heat" and an "emergency heat" setting switch on the thermostat.
Exception 2 - On some thermostats they are made to cycle on the heat if the temperature reaches a preset temp (around 50'f usually but definitely by 40'f). This mode prevents freezing when if instance the homeowner is away or while the home is under construction. In this mode the fan inside can run but the heat usually comes on with it.
Exception3 - On some electric furnaces the heating strips may be individually controlled and thus not all come on at one time. This may give the feel of no heat especially if the room is cold.

Now there may be other exceptions but Ive tried to give you a heads up on some of the most common ones.
If you need more help please post more specifics about your unit/system as to for sure what switches are set to what setting and what is happening with each. My first though was that maybe your system is OK and you needed to know if the thermostat was working properly.

If this helpd you understand your problem would you please give me as hifgh a mark as you can. Thnaks for using fixya and good luck.
