a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

The factory default settings for the S600 is to auto calibrate every time the printhead is closed and every time the power is cycled. If the media sensor is not positioned correctly for the media you are using the label size will not be detected during a calibration. You mentioned the media has no markings, doe sthe media have a space between the labels? If so, the media sensor may not see the gap in the labels adn therefor is not calibrating properly or not calibrating at all. Check the media sensor position. I have found that the media sensor must be at least 1" from the inner wall of the printer so it doesn't see the edge of the backing in oder to read the size of the labels.

HP actually recommends that you contact them directly when you get this type of error message.
I can provide a link for you to access their troubleshooting online, at http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&taskId=110&prodSeriesId=82218&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=82218&objectID=bpp02995
where you can click on the contact HP link in calibration errors to receive further assistance.
Here's that link:
Click here for information on contacting HP support at http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/CallHP.jsp?locale=en_US&docIndexId=179680&taskId=101&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=25301.
If that doesn't interest you, you can browse the HP support forums, and you will find other examples of printers like yours with the same or similar errors, and HP experts who guide them through the fix. http://forums13.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/bizsupport/categoryhome.do?prodSeriesId=82218&lang=en&prodTypeId=18972&categoryId=414&cc=us&admit=109447627+1238315749385+28353475
That's my best advice for a quick solution, to go straight to the source. After all, they have the most experience with these things...
If somehow I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take a moment to kindly rate this post....thanks!

I solved this problem.
You need to bring your printer to some service, and perform cleanig of the printer's optic instruments, which are most probably coverd with dirt, and printer just can't recognize catridges, and can't give you the best print quality.
Just take it to the people who refill toners, or to some official service, they'll know what to do. I had the same problem as you, and today I can't recognize how better print quality is, and more importan, printer is not asking calibration any more.
